Asked the service manager that question yesterday.

In a word, the answer is "no". :(

I didn't ask how much he would charge to do it for me.

Put a piece of tape over the service light. You might be able to find some that matches the background. :/

Why in the world would BMW allow a mere owner to reset the service light?

"Resetting the indicator: Once the maintenance work due for a given service has been completed, the mechanic uses the GT1 to reset the indicator."

That is the offical word, but I am sure there must be another way. We need someone to go out and try a combination of things until they can get into the reset level and then share it with the the group. What happens if you hold the ODO reset down and turn on the key for instance?

Some people have suggested that the folk who manufacture the GS-911 code reader were working on an update that would allow it to be used to reset the service indicator. I have no idea whether that's true, or not, but you could always ask.

I was wondering about the GS-911 but, not having one yet, didn't know.

Hopefully an owner of such device will clue us in.

Speaking as the owner of 'such a device' I can say with some authority that it does.

Judging by the shop rate I figure after 3 'resets' I'm break even with the cost of the GS 911.

And it works with my cell phone via bluetooth! So I take it with me on the road.

The "Service" indicator is new with the 2008 models, you have a 2005 correct? Which didn't have it.

That being said, on the GS-911 forum (on Google) the fine folks at HexCode have said this is a feature they are working on for a future release of the GS-911 software.

That's what I was getting at when I said someone could ask. I meant ask the makers of the GS-911.

I very much would like to know if the GS-911 can reset the "stepper motors" as is done at each 6000 svc at the LD.

Not at this time, at least on the R1200-RT.

Not yet, but they will figure it out. Same with the service light reset. Stephan is doing good stuff, but it takes time to reverse engineer these things.

What service light are you referring to? My '05 RT either has no such thing, or it has never turned on.

Addendum: Never mind - my question was answered above. :dopeslap:

That's right. Solution is to ditch the 2008 for an older RT. Old ones are faster too... especially red ones... the KGT riders are always amazed when they cannot keep up

I think the '07 RT is the sweet spot. That year they took the servo brake booster off and it is before the service light.

Silver has proven to be the fastest. That particular color repels photons better than all others which allows the bike to cut through photo radiation better.

And if it had a FD drain plug it would be perfect.
