Dietrich Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I am looking for a smaller and less ugly than the BMW tank bag for my R1200RT. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
stubblejumper Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 How about this one? http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=47484
Yeeha! Stephen Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Lot of folks like the Big Mak Air Bag . Flips up for gas... Different sizes... Removable map case... can use the map case alone if desired...
Limecreek Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 This bag is made specifically for the RT, has a quick release system at the front for easy fill up at the gas station and an oversized map case. It is $150 new.
BeemerLover Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 +++1 for the touratech in the pic above. It attaches easily and releases quickly when you need to fill up with gas. It is not the largest but seems to have plenty of room for my needs. It has a clear map holder that is held on with velcro. Gael
Bullett Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Check out the Bags Connection offerings. They have a quick attachment to the SW Motech gas tank ring mount. It is easy to remove for fueling. I purchased a Daypack before the Un to carry my Camelback water bladder. I find it a convenient size. Jan went out and purchased one the next day. It carries the DSLR and three lenses; he can add the binoculars when the bag is expanded. Plus, it is narrow, and doesn't interfere with the handlebars or GPS. Linky Touratech also makes a smaller bag with its one mounting system to fit the R1200RT, the Flattop bag. I strongly considered it until I found the Bags Connection bag.
Dietrich Posted July 21, 2008 Author Posted July 21, 2008 Yes, the Touratech looks good. Will look into gettig one tomorrow. Thanks for all your advice.
russter Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I,like Dietrich, have been looking for something smaller. Looking at the website for the Touratech flat bag that sells for $150 it looks like it has a drawstring system on it on the side and the one that Limecreek posted a picture of his does not have this. I like the look of Limecreeks much better. Is this the same bag? Also the bag appears to be very rigid on the sides and top as I would like. Is this as rigid as it appears in the picture? Russter

Russter The drawstring serves no purpose other than packing something to the right side of the bag. The bag is not a rigid as it looks, the side walls are very thin and can easily be pushed inwards. That being said: I've owned one of these since they first came out and love it. I carry a bottle of water, various remotes, keys, cell phone, bluetooth, cable lock and just about anything that's small and I need to get to easily. Also I don't believe with this bag it will interfere with the BMW/Zumo bracket setup.
rsqrob Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I have the Touratech bag also. I can fit plenty into it and use the elastic side straps to carry a water bottle. Works perfect.
Dietrich Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 Sharon, thanks for the tip. I found a used one (Engage Touring) on the BMOA forum and purchased it. Looking forward to getting it.
Deek Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I'm quite happy with the RKA 16 liter bag. Attaches very securely, and it a little thinner than some others. I mainly want a tank bag for a map case, and to hold very small and thin items. I have a BMW GPS system and a tire monitoring system both of which can be blocked by a larger tank bag.
