Frustrated_Diver Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 What does it mean when, after a 12,000 mile service with computer software update on my 2007 R1200RT, the odometer flashes? It took the service tech all day to do the service so i was kind of escorted out of the place in a hurry so they could close. It took me a few miles to notice the flashing. Should i be concerned? The place won't open again until Tuesday.
5150 Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Relax, it's no big deal. It's a software upgrade issue. Talk to your dealer and he'll fix it for nothing. The same thing happened when my fuel sensor gauge needed to be replaced (under warranty).
Twisties Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Not to detract from the thread, but I can't help chuckling, sounds like some sort of problem they would have on ADVRider, you know, the Oddometer.... \hijack Back to the original thread. Jan
Don_Eilenberger Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Don't be concerned. There is an SIB out on this.. I believe they have to do the programming as if the ECU is a new one rather than do the upgrade when this happens.
NHRoadrunner Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I just had my 2007 1200GS serviced and it came back with the odometer flashing. It was actually a recall for some brake work and a computer upgrade. Since I trailered the bike to and from the dealer, I only noticed it at home. Should I bring it back or just ignore it? What did you do eventually? Did you figure out if it means something important? Bike seems to run just fine. Thanks!
Ken H. Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Little more detail - It's a discrepancy between the miles/km the ZFE module thinks the bike has (usually after an software upgrade) and what the instrument cluster module has in it's memory. It's an anti-fraud thing I guess. As mentioned, the dealer should be able to easily sort it.
Frustrated_Diver Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 The next Saturday i returned to the dealer and after two tries, they got the software reloaded. The flashing went away. The tech though that maybe on the first service the wheel got moved slightly and that made the two odometer values different, therefore causing the error indicator.
