An Un-Believably Good Time...(The missing Part-II)

Some have been having trouble getting the full original post. It seems to cut off around the pictures of Ken's bike. I've picked up the tale from that point and posted it here for those unable to read the full original post.

As mentioned earlier, I didn’t take that many pictures at the Un…too busy enjoy everyone’s company. But I did shoot some pictures of Ken H washing his GS. I know this type of activity is almost considered sacrilegious among many GS riders, so I will keep the embarrassing washing pictures to myself. But I will show you the end result.

Not even a bug on the headlight…embarrassing!

In an effort to “get the dirt” on Ken, I inspected the bike more carefully.

orig.jpg

Ummm…It seems like someone missed a spot!

Here is the extent of his dirt riding…a ride across the grass in the campground.

Tony, Lori, and I took a nice ride on Wednesday. We ran into Richard and Jacqueline a couple of times.

Richard’s wardrobe needs some help.

As you all know, Phil (aka: the perfect husband), showed up with Jaime’s bike. After helping him get it off the trailer, I ran to take a picture I should have taken to start with.

The bike is parked and ready.

Here comes the Road Husband.

orig.jpg

We assembled to wait for the big moment.

orig.jpg

Jaime couldn’t figure out why we were all sitting there.

orig.jpg

Of course, Cool Jaime, Leslie, and many others knew what was happening.

Finally, she recognizes someone.

A big hug for Hubby number 1.

And we can’t forget about the Road Hubby.

Phil got a special shirt, and I’d say he deserved it for his trip. However, it was the general consensus that he had just set a new standard in husband behavior (aka: sucking up) that did not sit well with the married men in attendance!

We shared several meals at the restaurant across the street from the America’s Best Value motel.

The motel itself was a great location.

But all good things must come to an end, and sadly I headed out of town coming across this quaint sign. I think it was in Ukiah, Oregon. I guess someone was not happy with a bond that had passed.

This guy was in the road just outside of Ukiah when I first saw him. But he didn’t stick around for a good picture. A peacock in Oregon…go figure.

Thanks to a suggestion from Howard, PhillyFlash, I enjoyed some great riding on my way to Wisconsin, including a stretch across the Rattle Snake Pass and along the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway. However…Howard did, forget to tell me about the Idaho trooper lurking around the bend just east of Lewiston. The trooper asked me if there was a reason why I was riding fast (Duh!). I told him I was riding at a comfortable and safe speed. Then he asked why I slowed down when I saw him (Double Duh!). What could I say? I told him the truth…pure reflex! Result of this encounter…$75 performance award for 69 in a 55, oh well…

The second day out of John Day found me riding across Montana on US 12. I stopped for breakfast here.

I quickly realized that I would not want to live here. If you need to leave the snow shovel in the entrance to your café all year long, I don’t want to live there.

I just kept putting on the miles heading to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area to visit family. The scenery finally improved when I was riding next to bluffs and the Mississippi River on the Great River Road in Wisconsin. It was a perfect Sunday afternoon, and there were hundreds of motorcyclist riding and dining along the River Road…but I didn’t take any pictures of them.

After the long and less than exciting ride across eastern Montana and the Dakotas, I had mapped out a more scenic route through western Wisconsin and my old stomping grounds.

I came around a bend to see a deer and her twins grazing in an alfalfa field, but they got skittish when I stopped so I had to take the shot when and where I could.

I knew this old one-room school was there, and I included it on my route in hopes of snapping a few pictures.

orig.jpg

The old pump that provided many a cool drink sits silent.

orig.jpg

The wonderful old merry-go-round still waits patiently for students to rush out the door at recess.

Nestled in the giant old trees and surrounded by corn fields and woods, it is a picture into a world that was…

An excellent ride report. I got a melancholy feeling when I saw the pictures of the old school building with the hand pump outside. I went to school in a similar building, first through sixth grade and consider that I received an excellent education to that point. We had a lunch room in the basement where we received an honest to goodness hot meal each day with meat and vegetables, not the garbage they feed kids today. Sadly, they tore the old building down several years ago.
