taters Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 do these sprays that one puts on their plates work? supposedly they make it unable to photograph so you can't get a ticket. anyone know for sure?
big papa Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Seems everyone(cages) in AZ is sprayed. I work nights and really notice them when pulling up from behind. The spray dulls the built in reflectivity the cameras are dialed in for. They seem to work at night when the camera flashes. Not during the day. Others have the prismatic plastic covers. My buddy has one on his WRX and hasn't gotten a camera ticket yet. Supposedly out here, if you are on a bike w/ a tinted helmet visor, you won't get a ticket sent to you. I haven't tested that yet.
Boffin Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 do these sprays that one puts on their plates work? supposedly they make it unable to photograph so you can't get a ticket. anyone know for sure? I saw Mythbusters test these - none worked. I also know someone in the UK who works with the outpit of speed cameras. He says they don't work but you can tell that they have been 'tampered with' and in the UK that means you also get charged with 'attempting to pervert the course of justice'. Save you money - obey red-lights and get a V1. Andy
Linz Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 They don't work. I'm a pro commercial photographer with 42 years experience. I bought the spray and tested (photographed) every which way and couldn't get a noticeable reduction in detail. I say, rip off. The prismatic plastic covers work a little too well for my comfort, too easily seen by a LEO with his eyes peeled. Illegal here. Linz
stubblejumper Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 in the UK that means you also get charged with 'attempting to pervert the course of justice'. So are many people charged for being perverts?
Jon_M Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Does your question mean that you are a routine speeder in congested urban areas? Seen recent figures on motorcycle accidents?
David Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Does your question mean that you are a routine speeder in congested urban areas? Seen recent figures on motorcycle accidents? Taters is a professional troll.
smiller Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 that means you also get charged with 'attempting to pervert the course of justice'. Oooh... I think I would like to be charged with that...
tbarstow Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 If you live in a state that still has stamped metal plates, take a hammer and CAREFULLY flatten the plate. No raised characters will reflect the light equally, burning out the image. Or so I've heard.

Linz Luckily AZ is an almost anything goes state, the law is very vague. Just says you have to be able to read it from behind. Also, it's funny how many trucks I see out here flying on the freeway, all clean, but mud swiped across their plate. Very sneaky!!!
Quinn Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 A lot of people just add a bike rack to the rear of their cars to block the license plates.
Junkman3353 Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I say we do like the Brits and hang burning tires from the camera boxes.

The reflective white base will wash out the numbers.
Boffin Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Well, I can read those numbers - I suspect that whoever has the job of reviewing the photos from the roadside camera could as well. Andy
