Kris Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I'm never sure how much information actually makes it into the e-world... so here's some details about the Long Way Down Premiere. BMW Motorrad US has arranged a one night only premiere of Ewan and Charley's Long Way Down adventure. It happens July 31 @ 7:30pm and they've reserved loads of theaters for the viewing. Check Theaters If you're in the SF/Marin area - then get your tickets now!! Cary coerced the theater to provide a larger theater, because initially we sold the space out in 48 hours. And I've now heard that the San Francisco theater is no longer participating in the event. So those of you in SF can venture a short ride up to San Rafael and enjoy the premiere also. It's a one time only event, $10/ticket, time to buy them now before the new space is sold out again. Buy Tickets for Marin BMW Premiere See you there - kris
Kris Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 I was just visiting Cary and he called the theater... there were 8 tickets left, as of 1pm. Go buy now! The movie is being shown in the largest theater that they have... which is awesome to see so many avid motorcyclists (and fans) attend!! kris
KTsRidin Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Morton's BMW in Fredericksburg, VA is hosting a showing too. If you're in the area, you can get a ticket from them. I'm hoping to go myself! See you there, Kirsten
Cruzn'AL_FLC2C Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I've got my ticket for the theaters at Citrus Park Mall, Tampa, FL.
Timmer Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I'll be going down to San Rafael from the Petaluma/101 area if anyone wants to ride together. Or meet for dinner? or???
steve.foote Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 WE got tickets in Jacksonville..... Which theater? A gaggle of us Savannahians will be headed to the AMC Regency at 7:30pm.
mbelectric Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 ....and I'll probably be the only one in Stockton, CA...... MB>
DonMcCall Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Wife and I are going to the premier at the Snellville Oaks (Snellville - where everyone is somebody - all six of us
Deadboy Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 El Dorado HillS, CA......got tickets weeks ago on Fandango....
mbelectric Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Is this film or video??? As in projected or telecast? MB>
Jerry in Monument Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Taking my twin daughters tonight in Colorado Springs!
BULLman Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Is this film or video??? As in projected or telecast? MB> Got back from the movie and it was on a server. In Tampa, FL there were numerous false starts with crappy sound, no sound [kinda fun as we supplied our own sound track ] and then all was fine until is just stopped! [saw the dreaded "Windows is shutting down" window]. Crazy thing is they had to replay from the very start. They reduced the size of the video and it all came together. Nice picture once they finally got everything working together. Saw so some new footage. Seemed to me there was better music than from the series. Nice time out with my mates. Afterwards, everyone was talking about taking a trip to Alaska! Did anyone have some of the same problems as Tampa?
Volfan615 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Picture and sound were great in Nashville but it took them forever to turn the lights down in the theater and then about 20 min before the end they turned them backup again. What a trip! I loved the Gorillas.....
Dances_With_Wiener_Dogs Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I saw it in Appleton, Wisconsin. Great picture, sound and atmosphere. I thought it was strange to see the Windows "start" menu afterwards. I will definitely be buying the DVD. Good stuff.
Utard Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I saw it in Sandy, Ut. About 20 minutes before the end there was sound but no picture. It was still a great experience. The times they visited sites where genocides had taken place really got to me.
blkvelvt Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Saw it in Long Beach, Cailfornia. Great trip for them with happiness and great sorrow and tragadies presented to them. A real eye opening experience for the whole crew. I liked it.
Jeepster Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 We saw it tonight in Alhambra , Ca. First time I've been to a theatre in about ten years. And I'm glad it was for this movie. Both image and sound was great. Lili now thinks, after seeing the movie, she wants to try some weekend touring. Yee haw.
BFish Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 on a short vacation with RV at Ft Wilderness campground at WDW Orlando. Long Way Down played at downtown disney theater last night. took it in and enjoyed the movie. TV show will detail much more of the trip. quite a few orlando area bmw fellas gathered to watch.
Knifemaker Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 No problems in Jax...enjoyed the movie....Hey Ewan....can you keep a bike up? (inside joke for those who watched the movie) I know they wanted to make it in 85 days but I do not recall if they said how many actual days it took them?
blkvelvt Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 No problems in Jax...enjoyed the movie....Hey Ewan....can you keep a bike up? (inside joke for those who watched the movie) Same comments made in Long Beach. If you go down riding your bike, you just "Pulled a MacGregor"
blkvelvt Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Thread has comments here. http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=364163#Post364163

Afterwards, everyone was talking about taking a trip to Alaska! Did anyone have some of the same problems as Tampa? Yeah, we had a problem here in Greenville, SC. Saw the first 10 minutes, then a power surge (Thunderstorms in area). It took them a little bit to get the movie back up but they started it from the beginning. No problems after that. We really enjoyed it. Can't wait until Saturday night!
Mike05 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Saw in Highland Village, TX. (near Dallas) & all went well! Joyce, & several friends came along. Theatre not crowded but attendees had a good time! FYI: Announced on the screen a weekly series of "Long Way Down" will start showing on FOX starting August 2.
Jerry in Monument Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 No problems in Colorado Springs. Great film to enjoy with my twin daughters. Wife is out of town so she missed it. What a fantastic trip! Yet rather sad that I know I'll never get to do something like that. It did raise questions as to whether I'll buy an RT or GS. Also, my daughters were none too thrilled about seeing Eve. Hey Ewan, you fall over a lot!
steve.foote Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Yep, it's over there, but I'm betting that it will be brought here in the not too distant future. I thought the movie was good, but choppy due to the constrained timeframe. There were times when they went through two or three countries in what appeared to be a single scene. I'm sure the DVD will be much better. The mountains of Ethiopia were stunning. I never imagined such scenery from that part of the world. We also were suprised by the "closeness" of the traveling parties. In the first film, they made it a point of setting the bikes out on their own whenever possible. It seems that they were almost constantly accompanied by handlers through most of the more dangerous countries. It will be interesting to learn in the expanded program how they handled the logistics behind the scenes. All-in-all, it was a pretty good use use of $10.
Timmer Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 We had a full house in San Rafael. (Thanks Cary!) Great show. Loved the scene about loading the boat in Egypt on the way to Sudan. Must be nice to travel with that kind of support.
hopz Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 We gathered with a group of moto-interested people in Salt Lake City last night.... a theater full... hardly a seat remaining open. The movie was fun and interesting, but an entirely different thing from the Long Way Round. As we discussed it on the way home the consensus is that it was a good adventure but lacked the rawness of the LWR. In that instance there were times when the boys were in actual, physical danger and the challenges were significant. In the LWDown the challenges were real all right but were considerably more "managed"than the first one. The one exception may be the unplanned night in the wilds of Africa when the bandits night have appeared. The atrocities highlighted in Africa were awful. Maybe the world will awaken someday and figure out a way to manage that situation. Where is the UN? Overall it is well worth seeing. I comment the boys on making the movie. I also comment BMW of Salt Lake City for sponsoring the movie for their customers.
RPG Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Southeast Michigan BMW sponsored the event here. At 6pm they offered free pizza, drinks and free passes to the theatre including VIP parking. Very nicely done, John Horner and Audrey Wicke. I thought the movie was fantastic. As good as or better than Long Way Round. Lots of funny moments and you can see Charley and Ewan are truly best friends and they have a way of imparting how special it is to travel by motorcycle. I loved the interactions with the local people as it reinforced to me the inherent goodness in humankind. The Englishman on the bicycle pedaling across Africa interaction was excellent as well. Overall, great photography, excellent soundtrack and the bikes were advertised in the best way possible by not even being mentioned. A GS will be my next bike. One of the few movies that fulfills how special motorcycling is, IMHO. Now I want to see the whole video. RPG
steve.foote Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 When Eve joined them towards the end on her F650GS, I would imagine some marketing guy at KTM lost his cookies.
cali_beemer Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 It did raise questions as to whether I'll buy an RT or GS. Long way round got me tempted to a GS and I must say its been the best bike I have ever owned. More fun too! I went and watched long way down last night and now I am planning my own adventure on my GS
AdventurePoser Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 We saw it tonight in Alhambra , Ca. First time I've been to a theatre in about ten years. And I'm glad it was for this movie. Both image and sound was great. Lili now thinks, after seeing the movie, she wants to try some weekend touring. Yee haw. The Lovely Flame and I went last night and saw the film, courtesy of Dave Brown and Brown BMW. Free tickets to all who rode motorcycles to the theater and pizza and drinks before the movie.... Cheers, Steve in So Cal
Warren_H Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Sold out in Ventura people sitting on the steps - probably had to buy tickets to a different movie small theater seated about 150. On Fox Reality Direct TV channel 250 they showed the first episode last night at 11PM PT, it's scheduled to be repeated several times this weekend. Not wide screen or HD. I went to the LWD website and pre-ordered the DVD set. First movie I've seen in a while that no cell phones rang.
BULLman Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 First movie I've seen in a while that no cell phones rang. Didn't hear any rings, but people were using their iphones to play solitaire and surf for "pipes" while waiting for the technical difficulties of our showing. At least most of the showings were trouble free. Of course, they could of learned from our showing.
Timmer Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Looks like Long Way Down is on again tonight at 6pm PDT. Currently Fox is playing reruns of Long Way Around episodes for the next 6 hours.
questrider Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 When Eve joined them towards the end on her F650GS, I would imagine some marketing guy at KTM lost his cookies. I would imagine the whole KTM company loses their cookies every time the Long Way series is brought up. What a colossal marketing mistake it was for KTM to assess the initial RTW trip would be a failure and deny them the sponsorship of their brand.
BFish Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 tivo'd the first episode of LWD and watched last night. if all the events of the first episode are any inidication of the events during the trip it will be a good show. as we've all surmised the movie was a gnat on that elephants ass compared to the more lengthy tv show. the dynamics of both wives and the diff attitudes is interesting. have mixed feelings about ewans wife as compared to charlies. wonder if the ladies are friends in real life?
Laura Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 the dynamics of both wives and the diff attitudes is interesting. have mixed feelings about ewans wife as compared to charlies. wonder if the ladies are friends in real life? IMHO Eve should have stayed out of it. To want to be part of your husband's second adventure trip if you were an experienced rider and were part of it the first time is one thing but to be envious of his time (she says so) with his experienced riding buddy and then having to learn to ride just to be part of the trip is, I feel, very selfish. I think she should've backed off. I'd bet Olly and Eve are not friends in real life.

I think she should've backed off. I'd bet Olly and Eve are not friends in real life. Interesting viewpoint. We haven't seen the series (have the DVDs on pre-release order) but did see the 2hr version in the theaters. My wife (not a rider) thought Eve had some cojones for learning to ride and then meeting him in Africa for the couple/few days they rode together. She also thought Eve was something of a baby for all the weepy action (my wife's tough - she's used to me going off for a week or two backpacking or diving or camping). She figured that Eve sees Ewan near the end of the trip, already went weeks without seeing the guy and is going to see him relatively soon after the joint biking adventure. I gotta give her credit though for learning and she seemed a good sport on some of the riding. Dropped it a couple of times and didn't look like she whined about that. Glad she didn't try some of the more difficult back country stuff that Ewan & Charlie (and Claudio - shouldn't forget Claudio) had to fight thru. Overall I'd give Eve 2 thumbs up on the wife-meter.
marcopolo Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Now Claudio is the guy who really should get the kudos. He does everything Ewan and Charley do and then some. Speaking of Eve, my wife also thought she should have just stayed home and not horned in on the boys' adventure. I got the DVD last Christmas directly from England (through the LWD website).

DiggerJim Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 I got the DVD last Christmas directly from England (through the LWD website). Did you get the 6 episode version? I'm waiting on the 10 episode one that the LWD store still lists it as "pre-order". LWD Store
Warren_H Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I got an email the other day that since I was one of the first 50 to order the 10 episode version from the LWD site I would get a signed version. They expected to ship in the next 10 days. I didn't even know that was being offered. Ebay????
