soboy Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 After 35 years of riding motorcycles, I finally got a scooter yesterday. A 2007 Kymco Agility 125. This thing is an absolute hoot! I can not remember riding anything on 2 wheels that actually made me laugh out loud the way this one does. PO traded in a Vespa for the Kymco and then barely used it, it had under 160 miles. Despite the low miles, he had it serviced at the dealer every 3 months since he got a two year service contract when he bought it. After a quick clean up and a coat of wax, it looks and runs like brand new, even has cosmoline still on the motor. Although it is obviously built to a price point (plastics are just a bit flimsy compared to the Japanese bikes I have owned), the paint and the fit and finish are good. The motor and tranny are impressive and excellent - on the test ride, it hauled my 200 pounds up to an indicated 65 mph very easily. It handles well, brakes fine and the ride is firm but acceptable. It is controlled and stable at speed but very, very flickable. Surprisingly, it has a lot of underseat storage - I put a week's worth of laundry, two newspapers, a battery tender and 3 large towels in there yesterday and everything fit. But the main thing was that I could not keep from laughing out loud because this thing is so much fun to ride. I had to buy it after I test rode it because when I can have this much fun on two wheels for $1800, the decision is a no-brainer. This scoot will be used for errands around the 'burbs, riding the 1.5 miles to my son's house every day (my motorcycles seem like overkill on that ride), going the 12 miles over to the girlfriend's house, and this could be my main ride if gas prices continue to explode. I know a few people who own Agility 125s and they all are getting between 90 and 96 mpg!!! Sorry no pic but I can't seen to figure out how to add one. It is blue and cute as a button - sitting in the garage, it looks like the child of my two motorcycles. It looks just like the blue one in this link: http://philadelphiascooters.blogspot.com/2006/10/kymco-agility-125-review_08.html
Jeff98362 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Congrats on the new ride.... Please keep us posted on the mileage you observe after a few tankfuls! Be careful out there.
Semper_Fi Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Looks like a great ride! Don't forget to wave at biker's! I love the looks i get from the scooter folks when I wave - they don't know what to do. Have fun out there and be safe
soboy Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 Update: I have put a bit over 250 kilometers on the Agility in the 10 days I have owned it. The PO put 259 kilometers on the bike in the 20 months he owned it, so I equaled his 20 months of riding in 10 days - how funny. It is getting 90 mpg - very impressive. The little scooter is extremely easy to ride, more maneuverable than anything I have ever ridden on two wheels and has a lot of storage space under the seat. I have gone grocery shopping with it, done the Target run, and have used it for other errands and general transportation over the last 10 days. It fits on any sidewalk if there are no parking spaces in the lot. I've ridden it with a passenger and it does fine, in fact, my girlfriend enjoys riding on it more than on my cruiser. The Agility prefers to be ridden at speeds of 50 mph or less, although I have seen an indicated 65 (it gets a bit fussy around 60). Bottom line - great intown and around the 'burbs transportation device. Handles well, brakes are adequate, suspension is a bit lacking but acceptable. It is quick off the line and so light you can pick up the rear end and move it around. It makes me laugh while I ride it, but of course, it is a short distance around town device. It looks like a 50cc scooter so cage drivers are quite surprised when I am able to out-accelerate and/or pass them. The thing is a hoot - highly recommended if you are looking for a small scooter.
soboy Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 Congrats on the new ride.... Please keep us posted on the mileage you observe after a few tankfuls! Be careful out there. Gas mileage update: I have filled the bike up three times now, and I have been averaging 83 mpg since I bought it. Not too shabby! Best tank was 90 mpg, worst was 79. I'm still having a blast riding it and I can't imagine ever being without a scooter from now on.
Little Joe Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 /complete misrepresentation of poster's intent: Don't forget to wave at biker's! Shouldn't that be "Don't forget to wave at OTHER biker's!"? Don't you consider scooter riders to be bikers? /complete misrepresentation of poster's intent.
