MrHondamatic Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Sometimes you get the cart in front of the horse. In this case, I received a new Lowrance XOG GPS as a 35 years of service gift. As the wife said, we have our first accessory for our new Beemer. Unfortunately, I have yet to purchase said Beemer, so I had to test it on the old Honda. It came with a suction cup mount for a car, I'll have to order the bike mount. Since I had installed a non-leaking replacement tank recently, I haven't taken the time to repaint it, we just stripped it down, did some dent removal, and hit it with primer. The suction cup does not stick to the primed surface as well as I'd like, so a trusty bungee was used as backup. Yep, it's a redneck looking creation, but it never fell off. I know most of you use Garmin, but the price was right (freebie) on this one, so I gave it shot. I can now understand why you folks are so addicted to these things. No matter how far I wandered off the chosen path, this thing would re-route and take me where I wanted to go. Once I learn the system a little better, I'll work on some custom routes that will avoid the busier direct routes. This thing is going to be fun.
Semper_Fi Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Neccesity is the mother of invention - quick thinking Dave - enjoy your gift!
FLTRI Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Good job getting it on the bike Check out http://www.ram-mount.com/ if your looking for a more permanent solution. They make mounts for about every possible GPS and bike combination you can imagine... I know what you mean about having a GPS on board. I have an older Garmin Quest that I move between my three bikes. When I got my RT home this Spring, I had the plastic removed in the first 10 minutes of ownership to reverse engineer a mount for the Quest. I can't imagine riding with out it...

Like they say, to really screw up something you need a computer.....to get really lost you need a GPS! Hasn't happened to me yet (the latter), but it's sure fun trying! I suffer from Geographical Dyslexia which means I will get lost backing out of my driveway without a GPS!
ltljohn Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Now you've gone and done it...farkles are like crack once you have one you need more and more and MORE HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
