Horse Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Rumours - and a 'paintshop' picture - that BMW are launching a big-engined scooter, possibly a badge-engineered jobbie, in 2009. To be known as the 850CL Anyone known anything - or is it a wind-up? [i searched for "850CL" and "BMW scooter" but nothing came up. Apologies if it's been done before, but I tend to stay in Ride Well]

Wheels Rollin' Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 They do have some history with a scooter -- remember the 'not-available-in-America' C1? BMW C1 BMW C1 - At Speed I never had a chance to ride one while in Europe a few years ago, but the desire to do so sure was there <>... I suspect others here had a chance to ride and perhaps even own one... Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what comes of this in the months | years ahead... It's another growing segment here in the States, so who knows? Variety's good, ya' know <>... An' if you can make money at it, then everyone wins... ~ Bill
velomoto Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 850CL??? I suppose if one considers how BMW's placing the 800GS engine into the 650GS this scooter could have the 1200 engines!
Dietrich Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Haven't heard anything definite about a BMW scooter, other than that they were re-thinking pulling the C1 off the market a few years ago. I think there would be a market for a BMW scooter. A more modern version of the C1, a C2 with more power would be ok. I did test ride a C1 in Germany a few years ago. Just a scooter with a roof, a little top heavy. Full of unexpected gadgetry for a two-wheeler. Such as sunroof, wipers, seatbelts, automated kickstand, (weird mechanism), leather interior. Quite a piece of engineering. With the abundance of new models from our Bavarian friends, you never know what is next.

blkvelvt Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I hope it's sold with 6 free months of Karate lessons to defend your dignity. I'm old school and I'll straddle a tank.
Dietrich Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Looks like a Helix on steroids with a shot of German functional ugliness. Well, it took me a couple of years to get used to the looks of the new 1200RT.
Wheels Rollin' Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 With the abundance of new models from our Bavarian friends, you never know what is next. Ain't that the truth, Dietrich? <>... ~ Bill
keithb Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Well obviously the front end is off a R1200RT. Not sure about the rest of it.
