What are your favorite clothing items and accessories, for off-bike wear, when traveling by motorcycle - versatility, packability, appearance...?

Microfiber everything from the skin out.

I carry a pair of Bali deerskin loafers for casual wear when off the bike. A pair of those convertible microfibre pants that allow the legs to zip off and a couple of microfiber tee shirts. The Bali loafers are pricey but last for years and pack dead flat. They are, for sure, not hiking boots having very thin soles but they are dead comfy.

Every once in awhile, I'll run into a restaurant that doesn't like the t-shirt deal but there are always plenty that don't mind. Plus, I usually have 5 days worth of business casual with me so I can choose to dress up more.

I'm really just a complete slob. Try the travel clothes at

They pack small, don't show too many wrinkles, dry fast, and weigh little. Ex Officio and Patagonia are good brands.

Line a stuff sack with a trash bag for additional waterproofing and roll the clothes to keep from creases in them. Store your smelly comfy shoes with the bike gear (air pump, quart of oil, tools).

I'm a big fan of Schoeller pants. Schoeller anything really. This stuff is VERY popular with the skiing/climbing crowd. It combines the good points of denim, nylon, fleece, spandex.... Great for on or off the bike, they're a remarkably wind resistant and breathable at the same time.

REI brand stuff it pretty cost effective:

Over the past couple years I have converted all my traveling clothes to microfiber/synthetic/wicking stuff. That way anything I wear can be washed in the sink and worn the next morning. That allows me to take half the clothing I used to carry on the bike. Most of my stuff comes from REI.

The heaviest things I have to pack are a pair of sandals, like Keens or Tevas.

Wal-mart

After two or three days just leave it in the hotel room, your load gets lighter and ya get to check out the hotties when ya go back there!

I have a biker friend at work that brings only his rattyest underwear and and tee shirts from the bottom of his dresser. Throws them away and buys new on the road. OK! He rides a Harley.

Almost everything we take is microfibre or a similar packable, non-iron fabric. This type of clothing is not cheap in Oz but we get a lot of wear from it.

The summer pants are zipper removable legs making them shorts.

The rule for packing is: Roll it; don't fold it.

Hi Ernie,

a pair of microlight pants with zippers that convert to shorts. A microfiger LS shirt, and a microfiber Tee. I wear Teva sandals with a good sole of doing some hiking as well.

This outfit with a couple of pairs of boxers and another pair of socks is pretty much my clothing for any extended moto tour.

Have fun,

PS-I'll go Haynes one farther...don't roll it, stuff it. It's amazing how much room you really have in those cases...

My 9 days of travelling to the Un and back convinced me I needed to revise my off-bike gear - too much cotton packed! So today, there was a great sports-Euro car show in nearby Ventura. Just a few blocks from Patagonia hdqtrs and their CheapSports outlet. I left there having purchased Exofficio convertible pants and shirts, synthetic Patagonia boxers and several other items. Even discounted not cheap but my next trip will be so much easier with fewer items packed that will wash and dry quickly in a motel room!
