Albert Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Well I'm officially in for Torrey (the good news) but the Chuckwagon is already out of rooms (the bad news). Can anyone recommend an alternative? Thanks.
hopz Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Days Inn was one of the nicest Days Inns I have been to. The Rim Rock is a mile or two farther out but the restaurant is pretty good while the rooms are basic, but ok.
Twisties Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 The Schoolhouse is within a couple of hundred feet, an easy walk. This helps if you like to hang out with the crowd at the CW and maybe have a drink. Rooms are great there, worth the price. Only disadvantage is that the very lovely breakfasts come a bit late. You'll be breaking loose about 9:30 - 10 am if you hang in there for the whole affair.
Albert Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Thanks guys. I did make a reservation at the Days Inn just to hold a spot but I'd really like to be within walking distance of the Chuckwagon. They are going to contact me if something opens up. Thanks again.

Joe Frickin' Friday Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Well I'm officially in for Torrey (the good news) but the Chuckwagon is already out of rooms (the bad news). Can anyone recommend an alternative? Thanks. Keep your res at the Days Inn, but get on the waiting list for the Chuckwagon. As the date approaches people cancel at a prodigious rate, and if you get on the list now, it's likely you'll get in by then. Example: fall '06 Shawn and I got on the list for the Chuckwagon for spring '07; we were something like #13 on the list. a couple of weeks before the event we got a call saying a room had opened up for us, so we dropped the Days Inn and went with the 'Wagon.
Dennis Andress Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I might be confusing it with another place, but I think the Days Inn had a new name when we were there in May....
Bob Palin Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I might be confusing it with another place, but I think the Days Inn had a new name when we were there in May....Still the Days Inn, it's the EconoLodge that changed, it's now an "America's Best Inn" or something like that.

Albert Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Groovy! Can't wait to meet you amigo! Kaisr I'm looking forward to meeting lots of folks. Not that I'm anxious or paranoid or anything but I'm now on the waiting list for the Chuckwagon, I have a Days Inn room reserved and I have a Capitol Reef Inn room reserved. Hell or high water I'm planning on being there.

Thx, Jan The street that leads to Killers house(River Road) is between the BV Inn and Diablo.
drswift Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Stayed at the Capitol Reef Inn and Cafe in April. Walking distance between Chuckwagon and Cafe Diablo. Great breakfasts and homestyle dinners (for a lot less the Cafe Diablo). Nice clean rooms and good service. I'd be there if I didn't have a wedding to go to in SoCal .
