stubblejumper Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I really don't like the plastic oil filler cap on my r1200st.Does anyone know of a metal replacement cap that can be installed and removed with a standard allen key or torx key?I have been searching online, but most require special keys that are not easily replaced if misplaced or lost.
blkvelvt Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Try here http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/bmw.lasso?SubCat=R1200RT&-session=touratech:9D7F7C0F1175418C99JGM25A7021
stubblejumper Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Thanks, that is exactly what I am looking for.
SweetP Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I've one and can attest to its quality and effectiveness.
Paul Mihalka Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I have this one from Bob's BMW: http://store.bobsbmw.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=128 Only tool needed is a Quarter coin. Looks like original for the bike.
stubblejumper Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 The one from Bob's looks great, but when I tried to order it online, the shipping quote was over $90.UPS to Canada sucks.I could not get through on the phone,so I left a message to see if other shipping is possible.
SweetP Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 If you order from Touratech, I strongly suggest you also get their kick stand support extension, part number 047-0150. Best piece of kit I've added to the 12. Makes me wonder why BMW doesn't build it in as standard equipment.

I had the same trouble with freight to Australia, after an e-mail to the appropriate manager I was informed their automatic freight calculator was playing up, a subsequent quote was less then half the original quotation. Talk to them on the phone. A small item like that should be sent to Canada by regular snail mail. I'm sure they will do that for you.
stubblejumper Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 I just received a reply from Bob's by e-mail stating that it is their policy to ship all international orders by UPS.The cost would be $35 for the $37 part.
BMWED Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Then, when UPS delivers it to you they will charge you brokerage fees and taxes due. Ed
stubblejumper Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 I did some more searching and found this one that is actually sold by BMW.It is $32.50 at my local Canadian dealer.I ordered one this morning. http://www.bmw-riders-gear.com/BMWRA_products.asp?page=11&mm=by+Model&c=R+Series%2D12s&sc=R+1200+RT&m=Motorcycle&r1=&md=R+1200+RT&a1=ON&d1=ON&i1=ON&p1=1&p2=12&s1=71607696117&bplo=&bphi=

Good find.
stubblejumper Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Don't lose that wrench or you'll be hating life trying to remove a 5 sided torx with a center pin. Five pin security torx plus bits are not too difficult to find. http://www.wihatools.com/700seri/716_IPR_serie.htm Besides,it won't be that tight,so in an emergency,I am confident that I could unscrew it.

I'm sure someone on this list who lives near Bob's can/will buy one and send it regular mail to you, of course, after you send them the appropriate US funds.
Paul Mihalka Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I was going to offer that but stubblejumper already bought another one.
stubblejumper Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 As posted previously,I ordered the BMW part. It's cheaper, there are no brokerage fees, and I can pick it up at my local dealer. Thanks for the offer though Paul.
