JoeK Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I purchased a 2005 1150RT in March and it came equipped with the BMW auxilliary brake light, the LED one that flashes and then stays on when you activate either brake. After a dry ~ 1,000 mile tour of Northern Pennsylvania last week, I noticed that the brake light stays lit when the ignition is off and the key is out. I have tried several combinations of key positions and brake activations and while it works as advertised (as does the stock brake light) when required, it will not turn off. Any ideas?
GordonB Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 There are three power leads to that, one to the battery, one to the oem brake light and one to the oem tail light. If installed correctly there are jumpers (pigtails) for these power leads attached to the rear of the lamp sockets, one for brakes one for tail. remove the lens and take a look, see if there are any shorts, loose connectors. Then follow the other lead up to the battery and do the same. Hope this helps.
JoeK Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Thanks GordonB, For now, I have disconnecetd it at the light itself; troubleshooting this week-end. The light was installed before the original owner took delivery, so I'm thinking maybe the relay failed closed. Appreciate the info. Joe
