doc47 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 When did they quit making the R1100RT? Are the R1100R and R1100RS transmissions interchangeable with the RT?
Tony_K Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 From Anton's page. http://www.largiader.com/tech/oiltrans/ I know yours is a 1996 so maybe your looking for a M97 black but I don't know enough about the year breaks to be exact. A M97 would be best from my understanding. When I was sourcing parts a few months ago none of the larger BMW salvage yards had any. That may be different now. You may want to have yours dissasembled again and find out why yours failed. If you were closer to me (in L.A.) I could suggest a very good guy to fix it.
doc47 Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 Tony, thanks. Mine's a '97, so I assume the M97 would work best. I actually had it rebuilt less than 40K miles ago by a good guy, who now recommends I buy a new one !! He says the parts alone will justify the price. I'm still going to check around.....
doc47 Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 The good guy is Southern Cal or the good guy in Washington? Norm Hedlund in Port Orchard is the good guy in WA. Unfortunately, he's not doing much BMW work at the moment.
LJR Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I actually had it rebuilt less than 40K miles ago by a good guy, who now recommends I buy a new one He's probably not too far off the mark (you really didn't say what you needed). You might want to check on a rebuilt trans from bmw. I bought one from maxbmw about 2 years ago , they told me it would probably be a new trans, and it was. Not the cheapest way to go but if you have to get your trans rebuilt, new parts are expensive, input shaft is around 600 as I recall (plus labor for rebuild). Next thing would be to check with Bruno and see what he thinks a rebuild would cost. Don't have his info at hand.
