ARCHIE1 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 i have a 04 rt and need a new rear tire. i noticed that when removing the wheel it was way more tight against the swing arm than usual. i let some air out an removed it with a small tug. when looking closely at the tire it appeared to be worn more on the left side. can the swing arm pivot bearing be the cause? the bike only has 40k on it and never wreaked.
keithb Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 What you described with air/tire removal is absolutely normal. I had to remove air from the rear tire on my 04 RT and my 93 K1100RS to get the tire out and I growled every time. I am not sure how the swing arm pivot bearing would affect tire wear. In retrospect it seems like my tires are worn more on the left vs. the right side.
Mr. Frank Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 More wear on the left side is normal on both the front and rear tires. It is more obvious on the front.
upflying Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 The tire wear is normal, probably due to the "pull to the right" phenomena all of our bikes have. I think it has something to do with the "longitudinal" orientation of the crankshaft relative to the direction of travel of the motorcycle. You can feel the rocking and twisting when you rev the engine while stopped. I think the factory purposely tweaked the frame to counteract the rotational forces from the engine. Many will disagree with that theory however.
