Sorry to see you had this happen to you, SANTA... I had a friend of mine that experienced something similar... He had his rim 'rejuvenated' by these folks:

Rim & Wheel Works, Inc.

He was very pleased with the results -- and it was less than the replacement cost of the rim... And by the way? He's still running it nearly 50,000 miles later...

A local shop bent my front rim in a similar manner while mounting a new tire. I didn't notice until at a rest break on a long trip. Now I change my own tires. But, the rim is still functioning well after about 20K miles. Unless it really bothers you, or the tire leaks, I'd just leave it alone.

Yeah - mine has been like that for 50,000 miles. I sometimes notice it down around 25 mph, but usually not.

+1 on leave it alone. It's only cosmetic.

Leave it if you want, I doubt that it will break. I suspect that if you run the speed up to 110 or so you will probably feel vibration from it. That tire looks like it might be a suspect for sidewall damage? I would inspect/replace the tire and have the wheel straightened by these folks: Woody's Wheel Works

FWIW, Lisa's FZR600 has damage worse than that on both rims and there is no perceptible vibration from the wheels, even at speed on the racetrack.

Naturally and as always, YMMV.

Pull the wheel and the tire, set it on a semi-firm surface that won't scratch the rim (like your neighbor's dead lawn), have a good buddy put his foot on the far side, get a hard rubber mallet and . . .

It's not perfect, but it's still runnin' fine two-and-a-half years later! :)

I had the exact same dent. A few wacks later, with a shot filled rubber hammer, good as new :)
