Highway41 Posted July 4, 2005 Share Posted July 4, 2005 A couple electrical questions regards the R1200RT. Looking into the rear light housing, behind the seat latch there are two power outlets. On the left, there is a connection feeding power to what looks like a rod in a housing sticking thru the rear fender. Like some form of heat sink. Does anyone know the purpose. The leads are blue with red stripe and green with blue stripe. On the right, there is an unused power outlet with red with green stripe and brown leads. The brown may have a stripe, can't tell. My bike does not have a rear power socket so I wondered if this was its power supply? If so, I can run a switched lead from there to the front to power the GPS. decorbin Posted July 4, 2005 Share Posted July 4, 2005 Do you have the rear auxiliary power outlet? If not, that may be where the harness plugs in for it. If you don't have the rear outlet, there is a rubber plug in the hole for it on the left rear fairing above the bag mounts. Link to comment

Highway41 Posted July 6, 2005 Author Share Posted July 6, 2005 Duh, I should have known. As well engineered as this bike is, BMW had to have made provision for its GPS. I checked and there is a power lead cable tied to the frame supporting the dash/lights. Is that the power supply you referenced? Wonder if it will drive the computer nuts if I run both the 2610 and Escort from the same lead? Thanks for the info. Link to comment

Clearly after a very long time the battery would be depleted if you forgot to turn the GPS off. But, it's nice to keep the GPS on all the time. For example, even when you turn off the bike to stop for gas, etc., it's nice to keep the stopped timer going. Well, I guess you can't have everything. Link to comment
