Huzband Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 What with all the threads concerning things going wrong with Hexheads, I felt moved to post this. After having the 600 service done, I left home at midnight on the 3rd with 880 miles on the clock. Did a 50CC, & proceeded to run the snot out of it for more than 6600 miles. After doing an oil change right at 3000 miles, it's down a little, but not enough to matter. Based on my experience, the only bikes with trouble are the ones on the internet. Seriously, BMW Daytona stayed ahead of the game, & warrantied the EWS ring while doing the 600. This bike is the hammer. Oh yeah, after about fifteen hundred miles, so's the seat. Rock on Alaskan Leather.
RoadJunkie Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Maybe we've been lucky, Huzband, as I have had similar experience with high reliability on my 12RT. I have 53K miles on a '06 and have only had one early-life brake issue. I also find that maintenance is a breeze. Hell, I've even hit a deer on my bike and it just keeps on ticking!!
bakerzdosen Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I'm hoping you did some serious knocking on wood after posting that. Personally, my ST goes through oil like nobody's business. I've had to change ALL of the oil in the engine every 6,000 miles since I bought it. Luckily the tranny and FD hasn't needed it as often. (OK, I'll start knocking, but I'm at 22k with no problems that weren't caused by human (read:dealer) error.

At least the only thing broken on mine, that I know of, is the heated grips which still don't work since December. :angry, foot-tapping emoticon: You'd think the effing Germans could at least get that part right. Now I've probably jinxed myself.

Yesterday I took it in for the EWS recall and they were also supposed to attack the grip issue again. But when I dropped it off, the svce. mgr, said the EWS was all they could do at this time...even after we had discussed the grips when I made the appt 2 weeks ago. I think they are avoiding the grips because they don't know what else to do. I explained that I was planning on giving them a free 4th try on the grips before invoking the lemon law but after yesterday I am planning on proceeding with it. The foot dragging is gonna be over soon.

I'm with you Danny, I've put 35k on my 05 RT in less than two years with no problems. Going to put another 3 or 4k on before the end of this year. I don't know what those people are doing to there bikes but they should stop.
