Buckster Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Just noticed that the BMW Police site is noting a different valve clearance on the RTP: BMW Police under What's New 07/11/2008 Technician Maintenance Notes: Please take note that the exhaust valve clearance on R1200RT-P models (which all include option code 369) is different than the civil version - special service motors should have exhaust valve clearance set at .35 mm (civil models are at .30 mm). Please ensure that your technicians are following this recommendation from the RSD Repair Manual CD. Maybe because the Police models tend to be left idling much more than civilian models. Hotter temps = more valve clearance needed. Buckster
ShovelStrokeEd Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Well, that is certainly the reasoning behind the change. Following the recommendation on a civilian bike wouldn't hurt anything either. 0.5mm is less than 0.002" and won't make any material difference in how the bike runs.
