Hagwood Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 stupid question but if you want to know something you have to ask how do I lift the tank on my 98 R1100r to charge teh battery I have no owners manual Thanks in advance
Mr. Frank Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 You don't need to lift the tank to charge the battery. You can do that through the accessory outlet with the proper plug.
canoehead Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 You should be able to charge the battery simply removing the front seat. There's a little lock tab that sticks out on the left side panel which will unlock your front seat, lift it up and pull back to remove. That should give you enough access to connect charger cables to your battery. The battery might have little covers over the terminals which you'll have to pop open. There's a tab on the outer side that you can pop with your fingernail or a small screw driver. Once the tab is released the cover swings up to reveal your terminal. If you need to change the battery, you can get enough clearance to lift them out without taking the tank off. There's a bolt on the bottom right side of the tank connecting it to the frame that holds everything in place. The tank is supported by two rubber posts on the frame that the front of the tank clips in to. You can probably leave the trim at the bottom edge of the tank on, but I usually remove that. Hope that helps.
