Perlova Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 My 2820 will detect the Bluetooth Headset when the Garmin is first turned on. if I then turn off the headset and turn it back off, the 2820 will NOT reconnect. I do have the auto reconnect option set to on. I want to be able to toggle the headset between the garmin and the intercom mode, but as soon as I go to intercom, it disconnects from the Garmin and won't re-connect. Anyone have a workaround for this?
ArthurKnowles Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 It might help more if we knew what headset you are talking about. My Camos 600 for example has two BT channels. Chennel one connects to my GPS while channel 2 connects to my passenger's headset (channel 2 on their Camos 600) for intercom. On my phone, I have enabled discovery mode so that it broadcast's its availablilty. Required for the Nav III (almost the same as the 2820). You may need to enable this feature on your headset if possible. Or just do what I do when the weird things happen, just power off the GPS with the switch on the side and power it back up again.
Perlova Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 I have a BlueAnt Intephone but I don't think that is the problem. The Interphone can toggle back and forth to my Bluetooth cellphone with no problem. The Interphone only has one channel and can be connected to another Interphone or a cellphone, but one at a time. You need to toggle back and forth. However, the Garmin seems to only do discovery once when it is turned on. Or if you go into the bluetooth menu and force a connection. If it loses a connection, it won't re-establish automatically.
ArthurKnowles Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Hmm, just out of curiosity have you updated the firmware on your 2820? I know a coupleo fmonths back Garmin updated the firmware for the BT stack. If you have not updated recently, you might want to run WebUpdate and see if you have the latest firmware and try again.
Perlova Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 That exactly what I tried today and it was very weird. The Update utility said that everything was up to date but then a few minutes later an update started and updated the Bluetooth Firmware. It then wiped out my devices which I had a tough time reconnecting. Now it works differently. I can re-pair the Interphone but only if my wifes is not on. Because the same sequence to connect to the Garmin also tries to connect to the other Interphone. But it's not very consistant....
ArthurKnowles Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Hmm, wish I could help on that one. I don't use the Interphone and truthfully haven't had much success with the one BlueAnt device I do own (Handsfree kit for car).
Perlova Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 The Interphones work very well together and with my iPhone. It's only the Garmin that they have problems with.....
ArthurKnowles Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Sorry, I didn't mean to imply the BlueAnt HF kit I have has connectivity problems. It doesn't. It has feedback problems. When I talk to my wife I hear an echo of everything I said. The microphone is picking up the speaker on her unit. It always connects. As for BT, well it's up to the manufacturer to support the various BT stacks and it seems some do it differently than others. That can cause problems. I suggest you send off an e-mail to Garmin explaining the problem and see if they have a fix for it.
Perlova Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 I did send a note to Garmin. We'll see what they say. That's odd that you have an echo from your BlueAnt. Mine is very clear, except for a little bit of wind popping.
ArthurKnowles Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 My wife (user of the BlueAnt) doesn't hear any feedback. It's the external caller that hears it. I need to look at the manual again and see if there is a way to enable echo cancel or something like that.
Perlova Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Got a reply from Garmin support. Apparently it's an issue with the current Bluetooth firmware. It only connects once upon startup. Then you have to manually re-connect after that, if your headset goes out of range or if you toggle over to your passenger channel and back. Hopefully they will address it in a future software upgdate. Maybe I'll put in another headset into the helmet, just for the Garmin. Oh well, I guess you can't have everything (where would you put it)......
