rideaway Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 How do I get to the stock GPS connection, I have heard it's near the headlight. I want to get it hooked up as quick and easy as possible for now so it is ready for my trip. Is the stock connection always powered or does it shut off when key removed? Thanks for any help.
gettysburg Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 It's capped-off and taped to one of the supports of the front-end steel subframe. It's located just above and infront of the horn mount. It's a three wire connection. The center wire is used as a speed signal wire; which you won't use unless your GPS supports dead reckoning
Don_Eilenberger Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 And to answer your other question - it's a switched connection (power off about 60 seconds after ignition off..)
rideaway Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 Thanks for the help, found it and tapped into the wires as BMW wants $45 for the plug. Works great with my TomTom, seems to stay charging for at least 5 min after turning off the ignition and the GPS stays running on it's own battery after the power shuts off.
