Repoman Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I just purchased the larger BMW top case for use on my R1200RT and it only came in silver and does not match my bike, I have Piedmont Red (the fastest color). I would like to have the lid of my top case painted to match my bike, has anyone done this yet? It looks as though the lid is constructed in two parts, an inner shell and outer shell. Can these two shells be taken apart to paint? How do I get the BMW emblem off to paint? Thanks for your help. Doug
CruisinCruzan Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Looks great painted to match. All you need to do is detach the upper part from the lower at the hinges, masking takes care of the rest.

The BMW logo comes off with a sharp piece of wood, as it is held on with double sided tape. The paint matched well after the clear coat goes on. It is a two part paint, one base color and a top clear coat. Just follow the directions on can. Be careful not to make this do it yourself job harder than it really is. It can be done by anyone that able to ride a motorcycle.
swilson Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 For some reason they don't have Granite Grey for my 2005 RT. Darn.
Wheels Rollin' Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 It turned out great, Dave -- looks OEM! Very nicely done... An'... uh... love your red & white checkered garage floor covering too! <>... Cool! ~ Bill
RichEdwards Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I had a local body-repair shop (recommended by my BMW dealer) paint the topcase for my GT. It's a perfect match. Cost about $200. And it's the same case that goes on the new RT.

Cool! ~ Bill I don't think I would do this type of flooring again. The track studs and carbides on the skis of the snowmobile shred it up. It is better than the plain concrete floor.

An' OK -- sometimes the practical side o' style ain't all that practical, but oh what a feast for the eyes when they gaze upon your handy work <>... Better than plain concrete? Oh yeah.. ~ Bill
DaveRT Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Here is a link to 4 pages of floor stuff. http://www.griotsgarage.com/category/in+your+garage/garage+flooring.do?sortby=ourPicks&page=1
RoyTemple Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Anyone got pictures of a topcase painted to match the Granite Gray R1200RT?
