Brake and Clutch Wear

I'm approaching 20k miles on my 07 R1200ST. I understand the answer to my question could be "it depends." I'm looking for something a bit more helpful than that. My question: What is a reasonable expected life (a range is what I'm looking for) of a)brake pads and b) the clutch. Obviously both should last more than a few thousand miles and less than 100,000 miles. So what range do you think applies to each, assuming no squid behavior on my part. TIA.

The answer really is 'it depends' as the life for those components can vary so dramatically based on usage patterns. If I had to take a stab I'd say 75-100k for the clutch (assuming proper technique) and 20-40k for brake pads, if you were looking at some kind of bell curve. But again, estimates like this can be pretty meaningless for an individual rider.

Well, my ZX9R has 16,000 on it with original pads. My R1150R had I think 20,000 with original pads. Both seemed like they could go longer, although the R1150R squealed pretty good sometimes.

At 8500, the Pads on my RT looks really good and the rotors don't appear to have hardly any wear.

Thanks. This is just what I was looking for.

I have almost 25,000 miles on my ST, and the brakes still have about 50% left. Most of my riding is in the twisties, so I do use the brakes. They last really well.

That's good info. I've just returned from a 9600 mile journey on my ST and have cleaned up the bike. I'll be checking my pads and doing other service next and was just wondering about others' experiences. Thanks.

I have 126,000 miles on my '05 R1200RT. Original clutch going strong (knock on wood). Front brake pads replaced at 55k and rear pads at 60k. LF and rear rotors were below minimums at 90k and RF rotor at minimum (4mm).
