Beaky Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I've seen lots of posts about bar backs and bar raisers but I feel I'd like the bars a bit lower so I can lean forward slightly without feeling so cramped for space. OK, so I've got arms like a gorilla but surely I'm not the only one who would like to lower the bars, lean a bit forward and not sit so bolt upright. Anyone know of any suitable method/parts for lowering the bars, I appreciate it will make the mirrors useless but I could always fit GS or cheapo equivalents.
GregB Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 The idea of bar backs on a R1200RT is just absurd to me. Putting the seat in the high position makes it better. As I have looked at what would work to make the riding position better, I have come to the conclusion that lower and more forward would be better. I have perfect vision out of the mirrors though. They almost couldn't be better. Moving the bars down would start to impact the vision in the mirrors as I would start to see my hands in the mirrors. Moving the bars slightly forward would bring back that mirror functionality. I'm thinking slightly down and slightly forward would be a better riding position and still have great vision in the mirrors. I've looked at the adjustable handlebars on the K1200GT and really wished the RT had that system. One of thes days I'm going to pull off the handlebars and see if I could mill off some of the base to make the bars lower. I'm thinking I could also also mill the bolt holes into a small slot shape so that the handlebars could rotate slightly forward moving the hand position forward. I'm wondering if I could get 3/8" lower and 3/4" forward and still have a comfortable angle on the grips.
motoguy128 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 How about using and angle grinder on the OEM bars? It's always easier to add length then remove it. I wish the seat have a more vairable positon, rather than just 2 positions. And I agree, adjustable handlebars would be nice. I alos think I'd like them just a tad lower sometimes.
