FLTRI Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Hey Guys; I've been running a Garmin Quest for the last 5-6 years, and it's time to upgrade. I've convinced myself I need the Zumo 550 to replace the Quest. I've been watching them on eBay, and saw a nearly new BMW Zumo go for $500 in a Buy It Now auction. The Garmin Zumo's (non BMW version) appear to go for quite a bit more. I think that the price differential is due to the BMW version not having XM capabilities. What other differences are there between one that comes in a Garmin box, vs. one that comes in a BMW box? TIA Dan
EffBee Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 dealer locations. BMW printed on it. No XM. BMW Zumo has 3yr. warranty vs. 1yr. for the Zumo.
bakerzdosen Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 warranty was always the big selling point (aka only temptation to buy it over the Garmin) for me. There has been talk that getting software updates for the BMW would be more difficult because they've gotta go through BMW rather than Garmin, but I don't have any confirmation on that one...
JR356 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Hi, See the post on the Best Buy Zumo deal. Check around, there are still a few out there. JR356
Muneio Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 It's pretty easy to upload a POI file (point of interest) of all the BMW dealers as well as all the independent dealers to the standard Zumo 550. POI's available here POI Factory
FLTRI Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 Thanks for the info guys. I'll give our local Best Buy stores a call and see if they are moving them out.
