tamk435 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 OK…Had a little incident in Northern Michigan three weeks ago. The wife and I, with some friends were touring around the Northern part of the state. We decided to make a stop at this car show and do some walking around. I backed the bike into a parking spot along side my buddy’s bike. Wife got off the bike; I stepped off and started to get the bike on its center stand. Something happen; and the bike just slipped from my hands and tipped over on the right side. Came to rest on the usual valve cover and bags; too this day I’m not quite sure what happened. No other visual damage except for the right side mirror, R.S. valve cover and the right saddle bag. Surprisingly, little or NO paint and cosmetic damage (those German engineers). Spent the rest of the day MOTHER F@%*ing my self and rode on with out any issue’s, except for look at the cracked mirror starring back at me. Reminding me what had happen! Went home the next day; via the interstate with no mechanical issues that I could notice. After returning home I ordered a new mirror and valve cover. When the items arrived I mounted the new parts and did an engine oil, FD oil and spark plug change as well. Prior to changing the fluids I went for a little spin around the block and started to notice a rubbing sensation coming from the rear of the bike. All most like something was rubbing against the tire or something in the Final Drive was bent. Checked everything over; brakes, FD, Wheel, made my fluid changes. Nothing looked out of place! Commuted to work the next day with the same sensation coming from the rear, it’s very noticeable at lower speeds. My question to the group is: Has this happened to anyone else; i.e. this sensation after a dropping the bike? Could something have been bent due to the tip over and what should I be looking for? Thanks in advance, Todd
ShovelStrokeEd Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Chances are your right side pannier was jarred loose at the lower mounting point and is now rubbing on the tire. It is hard to see up in there but easy to fix. Remove pannier, replace, paying attention to get the foot at the front in the slot. If the rubbing persists, you may have to adjust that lower, front mount or even replace it if it is bent. I'm pretty sure it is part of the footpeg mounting plate.
Chico Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Could be your charcoal canister if it still installed. It would rub against your tire. Just give a slight tug.
