hrk123 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 How do I change the rear brake pads on my 02 1150RT and thanks
Ken H. Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place. Be careful with the ABS sensor cable. Rock the caliper back and forth on the rotor to retract the pistons enough for the caliper to lift up and off. There is a small retaining clip through the pad retaining pin, remove it. Now drive out the pads retaining pin (toward the retaining clip direction) using a small punch or similar. The pads then will fall out of the caliper. After pushing the pistons back in to gain clearance, reinstall in the reverse order.

I find it easier to remove the pin retaining clip and drive out the pin before removing the caliper from the swingarm. Andy
BluegrassPicker Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 What kind of pads did you decide get? I need to do my '02 RT also..
ltljohn Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 When you compress the pistons it will probably force a small amount of brake fluid out the tube on the right side of the bike by the foot peg. I put a small jar on a block of wood there to catch it. It was about a teaspoon full.
