Has anyone got any experience of these air or gel seats? Which type is the best for bike comfort as i need something as my backside gets sore after only 40-50 miles.

The air cushions, like the Air Hawk, allow for adjustment with the adding or reducing of the amount of air. This is not true with the gel pads. So, in my opinion the air cushion is better.

I have used an Air Hawk for about 3 years now and I am very happy with it. From what I have read about others not liking the air cushion it all comes down to not adjusting the air properly. Just my opinion.

We use Alaskan Leather pads, great.

For longer trips we use an Airhawk, w/the Alaskan Sheepskin, and have all day comfort.

That said, MCN recently reviewed a new product, the Freedom Air, and compared it to the Air Hawk.

They gave the nod to the Freedom Air.

Looks very good.

If you are going to try a sheep skin, you might want to try an Ikea, if there is one near to you. I have bought good quality sheep skin rugs for about the same as 18 pounds in Canada. It would also save shipping and duty.

I find that sheep skin helps on mid size trips and I also alternate between a gel seat and sheep skin for the all day trips.

I would think having a sheepskin in England would be awful, it would constantly be wet and soon stink like the sheep it came off (Down Wurty!). I have the gel pad, the sheepskin and an Airhawk, none of them make a lot of difference.

Try 'beads' instead of either air or gel!

I've tried beads. From now on I'll stick with air. The beads do a good job of turning a few large pressure points into many smaller but equally painful ones.

I keep a Therm-a-rest inflatable seat in the top case. Put this on your Corbin and the ride can be extended for a while. I use it out on the highway/country roads with good results. Just something to think about for $35.

PS...I realize THIS IS NOT SAFE! I do enjoy inflating it all the way then being able to release pressure to fit the feel I need. Check it out if you wish.

PS...I forgot to tell you that it has a mind of it's own and on two occasions I stood up on the pegs to stretch the legs and when I sat back down ...it was gone. I hate to back-track but I found it both times...get a bright colored one! (Easier to find)

Bob,

You had problems w/a Russell also, I think.

Are you stock now?

And, for you, nothing makes a differecne?

I prefer gel. My personal experience.

I had the stock seat on my KRS rebuilt using gel. Before, a 300 mile trip cause serious pain. With the gel seat, I accomplished a saddle sore and a bbg gold.

+3 on sheepskin... Mine is from Sheepy Hollow (no kidding!) that migrated from my former FJR.

This company makes a full line of types and sizes - wall-to-wall sheepskin seat covering if you like.

I bought their universal solo pad online from Auz and it's now over 4 yrs old. Sheepy Hollow

Airhawk is the best I'ved used.

I can comfortably ride all day with one, for days at a time.

I used an Airhawk and found it damn comfy. But, it must be heaven to have a nice Russell-day-long-seat. Heated, too, if they make one.

I have the Air Hawk, Alaska leather Sheepskin, Bead Rider, and a Freedom Air pad. I have hundreds of miles on each and find the Freedom Air pad to work the best for me. FYI I am a 350 lb rider on a R1200RT.
