Scout_WY Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I saw a thread about backfiring. I bought the bike w/40k on it and yes it does have an aftermarket exhaust. But I didn't get the OEM muffler. Why do they backfire w/aftermarket equipment, backpressure? Can it be fixed? Haven't done anything to the motor, planned for this winter.
OoPEZoO Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I don't run an after market exhaust per se, but my stock exhaust was gutted and welded back together. The only time I've noticed backfiring is when I am off the throttle and the bike is decelerating in gear. Even then, I've found that it only happens when the throttle is still slightly cracked while doing this. As long as I make sure the throttle is completely closed, all is well
philbytx Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Nature of the beast...mine occasionally pops on the overrun. Not quite an TADT but QAFDT
Scout_WY Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 It backfires alot, is loud and very annoying. When throttle is completly off and in between some shifts.
skinny_tom (aka boney) Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Some here have suggested that it may need a throttle body sync, and that if they don't open/close at the same time you get a burp. Check to make sure that they close all the way- they should "click" against the stops, then while doing the sync see if there's a shift in vacuum on one side or the other as you open the throttle.
