Joe Frickin' Friday Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Found this pic on the web: Real? Fake? Anyone know where it is?
Matts_12GS Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Where did you find the picture? I was wondering it if was near that private road complex they use during the sportbikes northwest event?
russell_bynum Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 That is not a road, but paradise. No run-off. Patches. Visible line of road snot down the middle of the lanes. Doesn't seem much like paradise to me.

Doesn't seem much like paradise to me. Bounce, most of us don't need runoffs. I won't claim it's paradise, but it looks interesting.
Boffin Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 It looks fake to me, too many curves for not enough change in elevation. It would be cheaper and easier to put in a straight climb. Looks like fun though... Andy
too old to care Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 That is not a road, but paradise. No run-off. Patches. Visible line of road snot down the middle of the lanes. Doesn't seem much like paradise to me. Why I think it looks to me like paradise is because I do not race, thus I do not ride on race tracks with run-offs. The roads I ride on near me have the curves like that, but they are blind curves due to trees and hills next to the road, often have gravel on them and filled with pot holes, and blind drive ways with farmers and their tractors pulling out in front of me, or their dogs. Because I can see what is ahead and it looks deserted, I will stand by my statement; it still looks like paradise to me.

Add some runoff and give me some time to convert the DRZ into a motard, and that'd be a hoot.
steve.foote Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Mitch, maybe we can help you find this road by narrowing it down. I'll go first, it's not in Savannah.
Mister Tee Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I'm going to guess it's a real road, which has been compressed using Photoshop and overlain over a real background. The other problem I have with it is the fact that you can see a drainage swale to the left of the straight section in the background, but there is no provision for drainage whatsoever though the curved section in the foreground.
ericfoerster Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I think it's in the Alps..... It's in Europe, thats my guess.
StretchMark Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 It's real. Here's a night time photo of same road using a long exposure....and sorry....I'm not allowed to say where it is..very secret Just kidding, some blogger had the same photo and didn't know where it was either.
Boffin Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I think it's in the Alps..... It's in Europe, thats my guess. Definitely not the Alps, the road markings are wrong for Europe. edit: and the road is too darned wide. Andy
FlyingFinn Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Definitely not the Alps, the road markings are wrong for Europe. The single yellow center line? The traffic signs do look European... -- Mikko
Boffin Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Definitely not the Alps, the road markings are wrong for Europe. The single yellow center line? Yes, the only place I have seen yellow paint used in Europe is France, and that only in areas under construction/repair The traffic signs do look European... -- Mikko The triangular signs are European in appearance but seem wrong to me. The whole look of the layout seems wrong for Europe - but I could be wrong. Andy
FlyingFinn Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Yes, the only place I have seen yellow paint used in Europe is France, and that only in areas under construction/repair. In Finland solid yellow center line is used to indicate "no passing" zones. Either a single line on one side of dashed white line (= normal center line) if it applies to that side of the road only, double yellow for no passing on either side. But I tell you that picture is NOT from Finland -- Mikko
RichEdwards Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I think I recognize the road. It on the route between Orlando and Tampa.
Marty Hill Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I think I recognize the road. It on the route between Orlando and Tampa. Isn't that the road to ozello?
allikanbe Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 It's real. Here's a night time photo of same road using a long exposure....and sorry....I'm not allowed to say where it is..very secret Just kidding, some blogger had the same photo and didn't know where it was either. Oh no, RedTail is here.
Albert Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Not sure where it is, but when I squint, I can see Elvis in a UFO near the bottom.
BFish Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I think I recognize the road. It on the route between Orlando and Tampa. was just about to post that it's not in florida....
bobbybob Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I've got it!---"mini-Stelvio" (in the obscure monarchy of Twistilvania)
blkvelvt Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I saw this in a doctor's office. You need to get this done if you're over 50 and don't mind losing your dignity. Fear the words "Just Relax".
Mister Tee Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I say no. 1. Google satellite images show no open meadows on the route. 2. Good luck finding that big of a stretch of farmland in Switzerland. It looks a lot like 128 in Napa County, California decending in to Rutherford. Certainly could work as a background.
dewtwo Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Mitch, maybe we can help you find this road by narrowing it down. I'll go first, it's not in Savannah. Rest assured it is not anywhere in the state of Florida!

Rest assured it is not anywhere in the state of Florida! Really !!!???? I thought it could be the way down of one of those giant garbage dumps I saw along the I-95 heading down to Miami. But you're right, the garbage dumps in the background don't make sense..... FWIW, I don't think it is in Europe. The yellow line and the width of the road seem to be out of place. A quick Google Images search didn't come up with anything.....
Matts_12GS Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 This is in Florida. Hmm, That looks like somewhere south of I-4. In the "true" geography of the state, that would make it Miami, which is definitely NOT part of Florida...

The other problem I have with it is the fact that you can see a drainage swale to the left of the straight section in the background, but there is no provision for drainage whatsoever though the curved section in the foreground. Looks to me like where the curve section meets the straight, there is a bridge???????? The farm land in the background and the high tension power lines overhead might make tracking down the location easer.
Joe Frickin' Friday Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 The farm land in the background and the high tension power lines overhead might make tracking down the location easer. Sure. Now we just have to browse 140 million square miles of land on Google Earth and look for those features.
Marty Hill Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 What else do you guys have to do. Surely your all not working.
blkvelvt Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 This isn't it but it's almost as fun. Watch for Sheriff's with radar. Palos Verdes in SoCal. http://maps.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTExNmIycG51BF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEc2VjA2ZwLWJ1dHRvbgRzbGsDbGluaw--#mvt=s&lat=33.730073&lon=-118.330243&zoom=18&q1=palos%20verdes

I guess that could explain the drainage issue.
Firefight911 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Haven't found it yet but it sure is fun finding other great roads in the world - LINKY
Albert Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Not sure where it is, but when I squint, I can see Elvis in a UFO near the bottom. Anybody checked around Area 51 yet? Just sayin'
Firefight911 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Not sure where it is, but when I squint, I can see Elvis in a UFO near the bottom. Anybody checked around Area 51 yet? Just sayin' Not a chance!!! This is the ET highway and it has not one curve in it! Aliens took them with them as they found out how fun they are! Damn aliens.
gottabmw Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Check out this link. Five pages of incredible roads around the world!
pjamesb80 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 It's clearly the infamous "slinky slide" located in the Northern plains of East Dakota. How the hell would we know where it is? Where did the picture come from?
Francois_Dumas Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Crappy first post - eh? Heh heh. Oh, I dunno.... almost ANY post is better than just lurkin' Welcome to BMWST

ESokoloff Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 It's got to be easer to find that road on Google Earth then to find some downed aviator flying a paper (fabric) airplane(ILTHOGH)
Bill Neander Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Looks like Aprilia knows where it is. http://www.aprilia.com/modelli/road/modello.asp?id=130&lin2=eng
