First off, I'll vent by saying that my Zumo 550 will arrive tomorrow and my buddy was just telling that the TomTom Rider 2 Edition has a lot more features than the Zumo I just bought (i.e Scala Bluetooth headset, voice commands, etc.) and also retails for cheaper! Well, that just really burns me.

Now that I got that out of the way, I now need a good recommendation for a hardwired headset/microphone (so I can listen to music and use mobile phone). I wouldn't mind a Bluetooth one either, except that I am concerned about the battery life and also the lack of stereo for the music. But hey, I can be convinced. Also, I don't have Autocomm and don't plan on getting one anytime in the near future. I just need a recommendation for a headset that plugs right into the Zumo unit. Thanks all.

I have a Scala rider teamset that I use with my Zumo. My wife and I just spent two weeks touring France and never had any battery life issues. We turned the units off when off the bike. I have a cigar lighter socket in the glove box and used this to charge the headsets overnight or at lunch stops.

The dual-mono music is not an issue to us, though I can see it may be to others.

My phone lived in the glovebox (on a car-charger) and the interface was a delight to use. Callers could not tell I was on a bike.

The Tom-Tom may be cheaper, but there is a reason for that - quality and customer service (or lack thereof).

Log on to www.zumoforums.com if you haven't done so already. It's a great site.

You made the correct choice...Zumo is the one, for many good reasons.

Using a wired hedset or just earphones is an excellent thing to do. Full bluetooth is greatly convenient (we use the Scala Rider Teamset also) but at the "expense" of mono mp3 not stereo. Battery life is not an issue.

I am a moderator over there and happy to help tell you how to do things.

Check out EdSets at http://www.edsets.com

He has a cable that will connect his headsets directly to the Zumo. He also has excellent service!

Thanks for the replies. If I got a ER6i earbuds and a microphone from EdSets, this should work for the Navi, phone and MP3, right? Just wanted a confirmation before I make the order.

BTW, the Zumo 550 arrived today and I've been playing with it. Very fun and easy to use. I've only used it on my car as I've not hardwired the power cable for the bike and since I didn't have the headset/microphone, I'm waiting till I get those to try it out. Very very cool!!!

Only downside is that the warining label indicates that usage of the suction mount in California is illegal. Wonder why that's the case...???

That's why they supply that self-adhesive disk. You stick it onto the dash and use the suction mount on that, thereby by-passing the no suction mounts on the windshield law.

I understand that, but was just wondering why that was the case. Using the suction on the windshield does not impede on my vision at all as I put it to the far left lower corner of the windshield. The cradle is not visible behind the Zumo unit. I'm pretty sure using the self-adhesive disk on the dash will result in some sort of residual mark on the dash when it's eventually time to remove it.

I read that changes as of July . Also goes hands free phone in the car.
