rickman125 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I am trying to get my radio out of my 96 RT. I have pushed down on the little tabs in the holes but it will not come out. Can anyone tell me another way to do this? Thanks, Jerry
RoadJunkie Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 According to my factory CD, you need to remove right side fairing (upper and lower)and the tank rail and fuel tank cover (clean rag stuffed into opening,)and then remove the radio box. Remove 3 screws to disassemble box, unplug connectors and remove radio.
ArthurKnowles Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 There was a previous thread where someone stated they removed their radio using the generic U shapped DIN radio removal tool. It basically pops the clips so you can remove the radio from the DIN case. Since I was installing a non-OEM radio, I went the recommended (OEM) method. Remvoe the lower cowl, right side fairing, air duct (3 screws), radio case (1 screw behind the unit that attaches to the gas tank - don't miss it and the plastic knob in the case), then when I had the case in my hands I removed the tape, the three screws holding the top on, pulled the radio and disconnected all the connectors.
RoadJunkie Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Oops, my bad. I thought you had a '06 RT not a 96. Sorry.

Don’t push pins to far down you will feel a little notch on the way down, once the pins go past that don’t go any further down, now you just pull the unit up somehow. I couldn’t but in the end I had the pins to far down which made it worse and I finished up pulling the whole mounting cradle out which I wanted to do anyway as I wanted to take the radio right out and use the space for other things, to do that you have to take the left side fairing off. Good luck.
