rvb1019 Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Yesterday. I saw on the Advrider forum that Best Buy had the Zumo 550 for an insanely low $539. After leaving the Sunday morning meeting of the LIBMWR club, I headed for the closest Best Buy. Sure enough, the price was right however, they were out of them so I had to go to another one not too far away to get my new Zumo! It gets better- I signed up for their credit card and got an instant $20 coupon! This big bad boy only was only $519 + Tax. That's a savings of over $160 bucks! I don't want to take all of the plastic off of the LT today. So I'll run them through my tank bag for now until I can bury them under the tupperware and into my fuse box. NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got2Greys Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 This is not the price at the Best Buy in my neighborhood. It is $899, the same as it is on their online site.
dasBoot Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Just picked up one from Cary NC for $544.00. Clearance...
dasBoot Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Not sure if a new model is coming out; I just think Best Buy wasn't selling enough of them. They save their shelf space for the huddled masses...
jwg122843 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Watch out for the return policy at Best Buy. if you do not like something there is a 15% restocking fee.
rvb1019 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 Based on what I've read on the Advrider forum in regards to the markdown, I think your right in thinking it's just not moving fast enough for the Big Box retailer. If you harass the saleskid, they will match the price. Don't take their first "no" as an answer. I'd recommend you tell them to look at the inventory at the Patchogue NY store. It will show 0 in stock but it will show the $539 price. Then tell them to match it. The store does match prices and since it's their own chain, it should be a no brainer! $150 bucks in my pocket is much better than $150 is some retailer's pocket. A little pushiness goes along way. Remember, $150 may by a couple more tanks of gas! Good Luck!
dasBoot Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Don't worry about the return policy - you'll want to keep the Zumo. I installed it last night and it is awesome! I love the MP3 player - I can leave the IPOD at home
RichEdwards Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 A little pushiness goes along way. Spoken like a true New Yorker. (And being one for 55 years, I should know.)

I walked into the local store here in Santa Rosa, and they had it on closeout for $608.95, but didn't have any in stock. The clerk checked around, found three at another store in the SF Bay Area and is having it shipped up here for me. AND they will match the $539 price without any arguments. The clerk told me they are not carrying the 550 any more. Thanks for the heads up on this. My SP-III took a dump last week, so this is most timely.
Got2Greys Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Got the last one at Crabtree Mall Best Buy in Raleigh for $544.95 ($581 including tax). Thanks for posting this so we could get a price that is considerably lower than the legitimate Internet prices (usually $680 or so), without shipping charges, as well.
RoadJunkie Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Just curious, Got2Greys, was your unit the "floor" unit? My BB had one left but was a floor model. Not sure I trust them as to how long unit was on display and BB floor models typically see a lot of unsupervised curious users. They would honor the $539 price, however.
Got2Greys Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Mine was in the box. They have floor units at a couple of stores, but I was looking for one in the box, so I would have the manual.
Armando Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Mine was in the box. They have floor units at a couple of stores, but I was looking for one in the box, so I would have the manual. Small hijack - For those who just bought one, was the Zumo itself inside a plastic bag, like each of the cables? I found it interesting that for mine, all the cables were in bags but the Zumo was just placed on the box. the unit looked brand new but did have a small scratch on the back of it as a result of rubbing against the box. This makes me wonder whether I got refurb unit. BTW, i bought mine online at Kohls. End hijack. a
ozmojo Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Just checked the American store online . Zumo 550 $576.00 I'm sure they'll price match. I'm, thinking this price is going to come down some more...just a gut feeling with the market the way it is.
Got2Greys Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Armando, The box was sealed with a Best Buy tape, bearing the warning, "this unit carries a 15% restocking fee." The Zumo itself was right on top, inside of the box, nestled inside a cardboard niche. The rest of the components were underneath this packaging, wrapped in either pink bubble wrap or clear plastic bags. Bill
JR356 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Hi, That's the way mine came too! All the bags were sealed, software too.I have no doubt the unit is new. If you are in Central,CA,the Clovis store has one or two left as of Sat.AM. Got them to pricematch with the Santa Clarita,CA store at $449. JR356
rvb1019 Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 If you check out that Advrider thread in my first post, there is a $50 coupon on all Garmin units. It's too late for me but maybe good news for you!
RoadJunkie Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I called Bestbuy.com and they will match store price, but..., you have to order first, then call their order desk, they will confirm the lower price, then give credit on your order. If it doesn't work out one could always cancel the order.
cali_beemer Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Don't worry about the return policy - you'll want to keep the Zumo. I installed it last night and it is awesome! I love the MP3 player - I can leave the IPOD at home Its not a matter of liking it but if you have any problems with it, Best Buy has horrible customer service. We had a DVD player we bought go out and tried to return it because it no longer worked 6 months after buying. They wouldnt fix it or replace it leaving us high and dry to try and deal with the manufacture. We try not to make any purchases from Best Buy anymore. Knowing the Zumo, I wouldnt hold my breath either, there seem to be a high rate of these that get the screen of death. Mine did.
bakerzdosen Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Ah yes, but remember, Garmin customer service is typically stellar. Once you buy it from BB, you don't have to deal with them again.
coopr Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I got a completely different answer from BestBuy.com. They said they wouldn't price match a store price. The local BestBuy here said they won't price match a discontinued item. I would buy one if I could find it at $539.00. I just keep getting the BestBuy run around.
RoadJunkie Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I talked to a woman at BB.com who indicated she was a supervisor and walked me through the process. But, I have NOT tried it and have decided to keep my 2720. Try again...you want a different answer ask a different person. Or, ask for a supervisor?
coopr Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Well, I pressed the BB.com supervisor about the price matching. I read the policy to him as it is posted on their web site. After a while of being on hold, they agreed. And, this is the best part, I got a 550 for $468 + tax! I don't know how they came up with the price, but I didn't ask any questions. UPS delivered it this morning and I'm installing it this weekend. SWEET!
JR356 Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Hi, I was aware of and used the ADVRider coupon when I bought it,so total was $399 plus CA tax. Thanks for the link for others to use. Just returned from Gillette and used the Zumo right out of the box,no problems.Only wish battery life was a bit better between recharges, did not have time to hardwire before leaving. Even found the custom endcaps at the other local store on closeout for $6.99,think I'll go with the flames:grin: JR356
