Toto Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 02 1150RT and want to use a 1/2 cover (looking at the Nelson-Rigg) but not sure what size to order. Anyone have experience with this?
jfixit Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I use the Nelson Rigg uv cover daily at work. XL fits very well. I have a Givi top trunk and side cases. If I lower the windshield the cover will go about half way down the side cases. With side cases removed windshield position does not matter. The top case is always on the bike. Packs small, easy on/easy off. Highly recommended.
AZgman Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I have had a Tour King 1/2 cover for 5 years and it is a good as new... (I use the K1200LT size for my RT since I used to own a K!) http://www.tourkingcovers.com/shop/
Toto Posted July 6, 2008 Author Posted July 6, 2008 I don't use the top case, so do you think the XL would be too loose?
Toto Posted July 6, 2008 Author Posted July 6, 2008 Tks, not familiar with this brand but I'll give it a look.
jfixit Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 If you don't have the top case you can completely cover the side bags and it should be fine. Just a guess because I always have the top case on but I would be comfortable with it. Adjusting the windshield can aid the fit.
keithb Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I have a EZ Touring half cover. The model is the Traveller A and I use it on my 05 RT. Cost is about $75 I believe.
Laura Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I have the 1/2 cover Nelson-Rigg UV2000 and have XL for both the FJR and the 1150RT. The L would be just too tight a fit.
keithb Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I know you are looking for a half cover but here is an option you may want to consider when the bike is in the garage. It is a full cover for your RT. Cost is less than $28 shipped to your house as of Mar 2008. The guy is located in Orange County, Ca. His email address is jwu_99@hotmail.com. Phone # 949-861-3888 Mon-Fri 9-5pm PST. Part # XL.
Jerry Johnston Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I've used an EZ-tour half cover (the largest size) since 96. It's easy to pack (aprachute type material) and covers 3/4 of the bike with side cases and trunk. I attach it to the foot pegs to keep it from blowing off when windy. I'd use it in the garage but to me the bike is a work of art and I want to see it when not riding (which is too often anymore). The only thing that could be improved is if it were a bit more water proof.
stubble! Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I'll second (fourth?) the XL size for a UV2000 on an RT.
RedMac Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I use the Nelson Rigg uv cover daily at work. XL fits very well. I have a Givi top trunk and side cases. If I lower the windshield the cover will go about half way down the side cases. With side cases removed windshield position does not matter. The top case is always on the bike. Packs small, easy on/easy off. Highly recommended. +1 on the Nelson Rigg. And the XL IS the correct size. I use it both with AND without the large BMW topcase. With the topcase, it covers just the top half of the side cases. Without the topcase, it pretty much covers the entire side cases. Looks good and nice fit both ways.
Cycledude Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 The Large is to small to fit a top case. The XL is the one one want. "How do I know", you ask? Because I purchased a Large cover first and found out it did not fit. Later I purchased an XL cover that fits great with a top case! Snowy.
Toto Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 Tks for all the advise. I went with the MotoGear XL 1/2 Cover and it fits perfect, waterproof, soft lining on inside and best price.
