OoPEZoO Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I've been working on the bike all weekend and one of the things I was replacing is the throttle cables and bowden box. Before the replacement, the throttle was a little sticky and the idle would always climb to up around 3-4 grand when I would crank the handlebars to the right. I figured something wasn't right and thought I could get it sorted out when I put the new cables in. Anyway, I put in three new cables and the bowden box this afternoon and although the sticky throttle has cleared up, the idle climbing to 3-4 grand is still going on. I was wondering if someone has a picture or a good explanation of how the main throttle cable is routed.....or could it just be that I need to reset all of the cable adjustments and start from scratch? Right now, the cable runs by the fuel lines and up the right hand side of the forks to the handlebar. I also tried rerouting it through the center of the forks, but it didn't appear to be long enough. Looks to me like when you turn the handlebars to the right, it bends the cable at a funny angle which in turn pulls on the cable and causes the idle to climb. Is it something as simple as the cable is adjusted too tight?
OoPEZoO Posted July 6, 2008 Author Posted July 6, 2008 I think I may have figured out the answer to my own question. I started digging through my "official BMW R1100RT" repair manual and it does mention exact measurements for slack and cable adjustments before you get to the throttle body sync. It also tells you to take the measurements followed by turning the handle bars to full lock in both directions in order to make sure everything is good. When in doubt.....go back an read the directions
