I'm waiting for the new VHF/UHF hand held from Yeasu (bluetooth hands free) to come out in August. I figure with the Zumo, Iphone, and that handheld I'll have that head set maxed out. With the FRS adaptor I could go that way as well. More than likely I'll have to sub something in and out depending on what I want to use most at the time. BTW you cant order those directly from Benchmark. You have to go to one of their dealers. Randy KA6TJH
Todd_Z1 Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 Randy, Thanks for posting the update. I am excited to hear what your experience is with this product. Please keep us posted and by the way who did you order from? Do you currently have an intercom? Or have you had one in the past? I am particularly interested in hearing your opinion on stereo sound quality. I was thinking to clip off to the speakers, solder in a 3.5 mm stereo jack and plug in my Etymotics ER6 to see how it works. I am not sure if this unit has enough power to drive the Etymotics though. Cheers! Todd

Cheers! Todd Todd, Benchmark has a number of its dealers listed on its website. I went with the Helmet Shop in Daytona. I have never done business with them but had chatted with them on the phone and they are local. The other reason was they didn't charge retail. I was surprised since it was a new version. I haven't been using a intercom system to this point but I have a friend that has a different brand of bluetooth headset so well have to try bike-to-bike and see how it works that way. I'll let you know how it works. Randy
RiceToy Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I have been using the BHS600 for more than a few months now, practically every day (to work) and including some longer rides to Tail of the Dragon (6hrs each way) and Grand Rapids (8hrs. each way), and love the thing! Sounds great, paired with Samsung Blackjack2 for mp3 music and GPS prompts (using Garmin MobileXT software for smartphones with built-in GPS antenna) and cell calls. I was waiting for the new Nolan N103 N-COM helmets to come out before purchasing another Camos for passenger, but now the new Camos is out. Looks like I'll be passing the old helmet+BHS600 down to passenger for new N103+BTS300. I too am looking forward to some reviews! If it performs like the BHS600 with more range and an additional Bluetooth channel - it will ROCK! BTW, purchased the BHS600 from Sierra Electronics and they provided prompt service free shipping and even replaced my original unit no questions asked after it was killed in a torrential downpour on my way back from Grand Rapids (they are water resistant - not 100% waterproof). Because of that, I will happily purchase Camos and any other brand stuff from them again.
Ken H. Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 How does one use something like these with in-ear bud instead of in-helmet speakers?
motoguy128 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 How does one use something like these with in-ear bud instead of in-helmet speakers? I imagine if the voltage requirements are the same, you might be able to carefully splice in a set of earbuds in place of the speakers.
decorbin Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I did that on a BTS-200 and it works fine for speakers. Not very happy with the headset, however. I bought it to use with a Yaesu FTM-10SR. It pairs, but won't remain paired. The US importer had no idea why and asked that I send them an e-mail describing this so they could forward it to the engineers in Germany. I did...never heard anything back from them. If you are going to use it for something simple, will probably work, and the earbud splice is no big deal. I just cut the speakers off and soldered on a stereo jack which I plug my earbuds into when I use this thing. For now, it sits in a box in along with the Yaesu.
