Perlova Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Just got a used 2820 and am trying to figure out how to mount it on the bike. I have a homemade shelf and want to mount the Garmin on the front face of it. The problem is that the Garmin mount is only on the bottom of the unit. I need to attach it from the back. I don't want to put it on top of the shelf where it will interfere with my vision or the windscreen. Does anyone have one of the Streetpilot motorcycle mount kits? Does it attach to the back of the Garmin? Or is it attached to the bottom? The picture and explanation on the Garmin site is not very clear.
Haynes Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 From what I can see on the Garmin website, the 2820 motorcycle mount appears to mount similarly to the 2610. The mounting acts as a claw with the GPS locating into the bottom and then the top clip securing it. Athough the bike is not the same as yours, I hope this picture helps. Mounting the GPS higher up near the windscreen is an advantage as you will not have to tilt your head down to see it.
Perlova Posted July 6, 2008 Author Posted July 6, 2008 I made up a temporary bracket to hold the 2820 for now, but it is a PITA mounting and dismounting the unit. Plus I need a better power cable since the 12V cigar lighter cable is just too big. So I think I'll spring for the bike bracket.
Haynes Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Again, I'm not sure about the 2820 but the bike bracket for the 2610 has a spring clip that holds it in for a quick "hold and release" action. There is a screw (either a hex key or torx) that holds the top clip in place for added security and limited anti-theft.
