jay723 Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 When I turn the key on the brake failure light flashes fast and the brakes will not initialize. I have to pushe the front brake lever foreward for a second and it will flash normal and initialize. I checked the fluid level for the front and rear resivors and they are fine. I am at a lose, please help..
ShovelStrokeEd Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Um, front brake switch problem? You should probably take it to a dealer.
Haynes Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Your owners manual should have something about how to read the ABS fault codes. The different modes of the warning light indicate different faults. As Ed says, perhaps the dealer should take a peek.
flars Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 If you have to push the lever forward, you have one of two problems: 1. bad brake light switch (not very likely) 2. brake fluid has accumulated around the brake lever grub screw, which prevents the lever from fully returning - Between the brake lever and the master cylinder is a rubber boot that covers up the grub screw (which pushes on the m/c piston to push fluid down the brake line to activate the brakes). If you see any corrosion on the front of the master cylinder behind the rubber boot, or if you see any white/yellow crystalline crap in there, your m/c piston is probably leaking, and you will have to replace the piston by getting a master cylinder rebuild kit.
