Tang Bag recommendations?

Please recommend a tank bag for a 2006 12RT.

The 12RT as the BMW Nav GPS mounted.

It needs to have a clear map holder on top. I want to put able to put a standard AAA paper map with "two sections" on view, that's about 8 by 9 inches.

It needs to be expandable, although I only very rarely ever pack them that full. But the option is good for stuffing in a rainsuit or jacket liner on occasion.

Non-magnetic obviously.

Straps arranged to minimize damage to the paint. And needs to look good. Subjective I know....

Removing/moving not too difficult for fueling.

It doesn't have to be one that will attach to the tank "rack" on the R12RT, but that would be nice.

Lots of little pockets and storage places inside would be nice.

I have a magnetic Rapid Transit Big City magnetic bag now and love it a bike with a steel gas tank. That one is just about the perfect size with the perfect pockets, etc.

I'm not rich - price needs to be under $200.....closer to $100 is much better!

Thanks guys and gals.

Try your Rapid Transit bag on the RT. The weight of the magnets will probably be enough to keep the bag in place, assuming it's got a strap to go around the steering head. I use a magnetic bag on mine, it sits there without moving, and when I need fuel I can just flip it up out of the way.

Hi Deek and welcome to the board. Congrats on the 06 RT. Check out Marsee, Big Mak, and Touratech for tank bags. Keep you eyes open and find a used one on this site in the classifieds section, www.ibmwr.org, and craigslist.com. I bought a brand new Marsee bag for $90 (retails for $175). Good luck.

I have had a Big Mac on my GT and switched it to my RT and love it. My buddy just bought a new 08 RT and it looks like the Big Mac mount might fit. Although it might be out of your budget, it is one fantastic bag.

Really? I'd have never thought that would work. If I can find nothing else I suppose I will give it a try. I think the success will depend on the design of the "mag bag". Yours is not a RT also, is it?

Although above your price range, Touratech makes a couple of tank bags for the 1200RT....I have the "Flat" bag as I don't want a big one....Don't know if you can find a good bag for the price range you mention...Good luck.........

Scroll down on this site to find the bags..

I found this one that looks decent, although it's hard to tell without seeing the actual unit. Price is about $150 which isn't too bad. I've never had a "strap bag", so it's tough for me to figure out which of the various configurations is best. I'm wondering, for instance, if just because a bag is listed "for the 12RT" what that actually means.

Sounds like there are problems with that model. The things that your review identified as negative are negatives with me too!

I have a 06 RT with a 2610 fitted between the bars, i bought BMW`s own tankbag for the R1200RT. You can see the sat nav, it has a clear top and its expandable, really good quality item and worth the money. its totally waterproof as it has a tie-up waterproof inner lining.

Yep, an RT. I used this same bag on a Goldwing for 25,000 miles with no issues. Oxford Products makes the particular bag I have, which expands to almost twice the size shown. It also converts to a day pack (sans magnets). It's called the Sport bag, I think, and can often be found on ebay for peanuts, new. It won't, however, allow you to have the map opened the way you want it...the only flaw I've found in the bag, in that the relatively narrow map pocket requires mashing the map up.

That's a go, no-go item. I use a tank bag 75% as a map holder. Even though I use a GPS almost all the time, I like the big picture that the map provides.
