Lawman Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 This near my house..An officer who made scene told me the two fatalities were possibly trying to slap hands as they passed each other..The other riders were just following too closely..I'll keep more space between myself and other riders.. http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?show=localnews&pnpID=974&NewsID=912871&CategoryID=18335&on=1
Wheels Rollin' Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I'll keep more space between myself and other riders... As Wooster stated above, I, too, hate it when this kind of thing happens... I like a lot of time and space between me and others when riding, so this incident, at least for me, is a painfully vivid reminder of the validity of that personal strategy... ~ Bill
upflying Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Were they wearing helmets? (Required in TX)? A helmet would not have made any difference. Tight, confined collision area is evidence of immediate deceleration and is generally not survivable. Increase the time of deceleration and your chances of survival go up. Basic physics.
AZKomet Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 WOW! Surprised that more were not killed!! And physics....60 MPH =88 feet per second. Not often one lives when coming in contact with another object. And pronounced dead at scene by a JP? Crazy stuff there in Texas...would not fly here in AZ. LEO's, doctor, fire are only ones to pronounce @ scene in AZ.
Lawman Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 And pronounced dead at scene by a JP? Crazy stuff there in Texas...would not fly here in AZ. LOL..It's actually crazier than that..J.P's are also charged with the task of determining cause of death..It's sorta important to get it right (natural, accident, or homicide). Yet they receive no investigative training whatsoever. My J.P. makes her determination by asking me: 1. Is the person dead? 2. What killed em?
Wheels Rollin' Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I guess the story is gone, don't see it... Click on the link again, RTP'er... () When the blank page opens, look to the left frame... () Run your cursor over the 'More Headlines' button... A menu will appear... Click on 'Archives'... () In the 'Browse Archives' section, click the 'Local Headlines' box... () Click the 'Continue' box... It's the '2 Killed On Sam Rayburn Dam' story... ~ Bill
W. Mazelin Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 They may have been trying to "high-five" each other, at speed, on motorbikes, in a curve, on a highway???!!! Are you kidding?! Stunningly stupid! If that's not the case, then they don't appear to have been very competent riders.
