Loose caliper bolts on 2007 R1200 RT

At 300 hundred miles on my 2007 R1200 RT I noticed a strange sound when I would hit a bump. I stopped to check it out and found the right front brake caliper was missing one mounting bolt and the other was hanging on by a few threads. Has anyone had issues with any of their brake caliper mounting bolts?

Also, a BMW dealer service manager told me their were metric and english torx wrench sizes. Is this true?

No/yes.

Correction, No and No. There is no distinction in Torx driver bits between metric and SAE applications. The threads are different the bits/heads are not. A T45 bit might be used to drive an M8 or a 5/16 bolt but the driver remains the same.

Thanks Ed, I'll go back and finish my nap now.

I apply a dot of paint to the head of each caliper mtg bolt, including the axle, axle pinch, and rear wheel bolts; usually at tire change intervals.

This way one can take a quick look before each ride and see if any bolts are 'backing out'.

Thanks for the info/tips.

The dealer installs the front wheel on all R1200RTs when they come out of the crate. (shipped with the front wheel off) If your brake calipers are/were loose, I would take the bike back to the dealer and ask them to recheck the front axle torque and pinch bolt as well as all caliper bolts.

Torque as follows

Front Axle = 50Nm

Brake caliper bolts = 30Nm

Front axle pinch bolt = 20Nm
