Sailorlite Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I recently replaced my front Bridgestone BT021 at 6,600 miles. The rear BT021 looks like it has maybe 25% remaining. It seems unusual for the front to wear out before the rear, but what I'm wondering is - what does that really mean? Race tires, with their superb grip, wear out more quickly than the average street tire. Is it possible that the tire wear rate is closely related to available "grip" (whether used or not)? Was I getting high performance grip, as compared to other brands, while cruising down the freeway? In an emergency stop or turn, would I have been less likely to skid? Should I from now on seek tires that don't last very long, because they are grippier? (I replaced that BT021, on my '04 RT, with a Pilot Road 2 but am thinking BT021 again for next time).
realshelby Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I think you may find the fault is in the BT 021, not you or your riding style, etc. Your mileage is actually higher than many others for the front BT 021! Mine went 4400 before I took it off. I know of a recent thread here that talked about this. The rear BT021 gave me good service for a rear tire. I replaced it at 6400 miles and it was not to the wear bars.
rabbibgr Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 My BTO21 front is worn out at 6k, this is the worst milage I have ever gotten on a front tire. It was also one of the noisiest tires ever. My previous front, a Dunlop D220 lasted about 12k. The rear BTO21 is at 10k and looks like it will run another 3-4k. Going back to the Dunlop front, It seems like a better match to the rear.
