Thought it was going to be a hard week trying to get everything done before we leave on the 1st to head out west for almost 2 weeks, but it has been pretty nice. Of course I haven't actually been concentrating on work I've been keeping up with this forum. Oh well to excited at this point to care!!

It's going to be a great trip and I can't wait to see some familiar faces again! See you guys soon!

Back from Ouray so I got busy changing fluids, mounting new tires, installing fuel and air filter, changing plugs, throttle sync...I think that should do it.

Getting excited to be on my way July 4th. 981 miles on the first day and then a more leisurely pace for the remaining 1,500 miles.

Hey Tony...where abouts in Wisconsin?

Almost gone! At work, bike is packed waiting outside. Still waiting for customers to deliver a bike. After that bye-bye. Probably catch some rain between here and Charleston WV, tonight's stop. Won't be the first time or the last time...

I'll report from the road when I can find a confuser.

Paul, if you are in need of a computer, you can go to the library and use one there, I have done that in Paonia and it works just the one like at home.

Took a local test run for electronics and new gear settling. Few more adjustments and we are good to go on 1st.

The GT is itching for some big roads and mountain twisties.

Yeah, but they only have comic books.

thanks Paul. I have no idea how big (or little) John Day is. I suppose I could survive a few days without getting online :=}

Gosh a few years ago it didn't exist. Amazing how much a part of our lives this internet thing has gotten to be. I used to drag a laptop around the country but it is sure hard on them with the vibration. I killed a couple of them in two years.

I'll have my little Dell 700m with me (12.1" widescreen) in a padded laptop sleeve inside my steamer truck (aka, 49L topcase). If you need a quick internet fix or just want to send some pics home, I'll be at Americas Best Value.

Thanks Jeff. I'm camping at the fairgrounds and they show WIFI there so I was tempted. I can't believe I rode around the country for years with no cell phone or internet. How did I do that?

Report from the road: I am with Draftermike in Sedalia MO. We just came back to his house from a very nice steak dinner. The riding was great. The only so-so part was last night. I left a little late from work so to get into Charleston WV was at night with about 1 hour of night riding in a serious rain storm. Not fun. The good part is that behind the storms came a cool front, so today all day the temperature did not go over 80. All day I rode against a strong westerly head wind, which means the body feels like riding at a 100 mph and gas mileage was also like at 100 mph. Draftermike has it good. On the whole trip in Sedalia is where I found the cheapest gas. $3.79 for regular at the corner Shell station and others.

Tomorrow Garden City KS, next day Gunnison CO! Talk to you later...

Paul, Gunnison and that area is going to have scattered t-storms and mid 40° temps at night, stay warm and dry.

Last night I washed the bike, packed the camping equipment in the duffel, and charged all the wireless bluetooth. Arranged for some camping at yellowstone and a hotel at Rapid City, SD for the trip home.

Tonight its laundry and packing the clothes and purchase a new visor for the helmet. Tomorrow I'll load the bike and head out Wednesday morning for Montana arriving at Glacier National Park on Thursday.

I am Stoked!!

Oh yeah, War/Peace hawk on the move, will be trying to keep the strafing runs to a minimum.

Just a couple miles here/there, chat with the locals a bit, then make some more miles go by.

Going to play golf and walk off some of this nervous energy, ha.

You camping in YS on 5th? We are coming in from the south (Jackson Hole). Sure would like to run by the Bear Tooth, do you know if it is open?

Just finished installing the new Bosch O2 sensor and the rest of the service I started last January. Now I have to go grab all my black tupperware back off of Leslie's bike that has been on there since the last Pied Piper Rally last fall. Yes, I've not been riding much and I'm looking forward to a whole weeks break and to see all you Hoons again!

I was going to leave Monday early am as I'm taking my wife to Vegas Sat night for the American Idol concert and won't get home till noon Sunday. BUT I am too anxious. I'm going to head North Sunday as soon as we get home and get a few hundred miles in by sundown. I am SO READY to get on the road.

Well its true that its a dry heat, but its STILL hot.

We'll talk about that "dry heat" BS after I've dealt with southern N.M. & Az. later this week.

Forecast is for 112f. knary.gif

Hot? I was in a dilemma about taking the heated vest or not....?

I re-read a famous thread over at Pashnit about this guy who did a huge tour of the west... he mentioned the 28 degree mornings over in Stanley, Idaho, in August...

Looks to me like JDO is having heat warnings this week... with low to mid 90's F. That is about what we are having here in Salt Lake. Yes our AC has been on too.

I am having a problem over here- hope it does not interfere with departure... my damn clock seem to have stopped, and the same for my calendar... this could become an issue.

Good luck! Be sure to drink lots of water, and Gatorade.

Well Bob, did you check your batteries? Hope it all works out--probably due to the infernal heat we are having here :D

You guys need to quit talking about the heat, 64 here this morning, doors open no ac. I am running NW bound looking for cooler places, ha.

Does feel kind of silly packing the insulated liners and turtlenecks plus rain gear, geeze.

Also think I need to stop at a truck stop and check my gross weight, glad I don't have a rack on top of topcase, no telling what I could get up there.

ETD 4 hours and counting! To all on the road and about to be on the road, travel safe and God's speed.

Plane for Seattle leaves at 6:00pm Wednesday. My stead awaits me at Ridewest, shod with new Dunlop tires, a new spring on the rear shock and it is pointed back East! After travling down the coast, through the mountains and valleys will arrive at John Day on the 9th. See you all there.

Progress report from Gunnison CO: Had two great days of riding. Yesterday morning Mike (Draftermike) after a great stay led me out of his house around the south side of Kansas City on roads with no traffic and even with some sweepers. We had great breakfast and than he returned home and I continued to Garden City on two-lanes. I never had such a good riding day in Kansas. Temp from sixties in the morning to nineties at the end, but almost no wind. Can you imagine Kansas with no wind?

Today another good day. West on 50, then southwest to hook up with rt. 160 and then ride 149 through Creede, Slumgullion Pass, Lake City, to Gunnison. One of my favorite roads. Cool day, sunny, no rain.

Tomorrow Grand Mesa and Utah.

I hope the fires in Northern Cal. don't mess up my ride from Reno/Minden to Redding and on to Eureka.

Link to comment

Paul, the smoke has pretty well cleared from the Minden area. The only areas currently showing dense enough smoke to cause air quality alerts are between Redding and Eureka.
