Paul Mihalka
Is she getting a new tire in San Diego? Tough. Jamie and Leslie who "catch" her in SD are well prepared to mount tires, but they are RT people and Nancy gets there at night, so a GS size tire would not be readily available. Link to comment
tallman
It's only 5:30 out there. Anybody got a tire? Are they close to a dealership? What about all these S. Cal. tire places? Got to be a way... Link to comment
Paul Mihalka
Jamie/Leslie: If Nancy needs a new rear tire, a 170/60x17 from a RT is about the same hight as the 150/70x17 from the GS, but about 20mm wider (10mm on each side). If it has enough side clearance it will work. I know you guys! I know you'll do the impossible if needed to keep her going. THANK YOU! Link to comment

Les is more
The shops here are closed on Monday. I think Nancy will be grabbing some sleep here. If she needs a tire we may be able to work something out while she sleeps. Link to comment
Les is more
We have RT tires. We can get her set up when she arrives if the clearance works. Otherwise, we'll call the dealer first thing. Our other tire place doesn't have the tire she needs. Link to comment
Whip
If you can't find a tire and the plug will hold till she gets back this way. I'll make sure I have one waitin on her here. I can change it while she sleeps with the pups....just let me know. Whip Link to comment
KMG_365
Nancy called tonight and if all goes well she'll be here 'round midnight! She said she left JAX at around 07:40 EST, so minus three hours for time difference, plus 48 hours for two days and another two for the "50" of the 50CC she needs to get back on the road by around 06:40 PST. This part works out well as I got called back in to work tomorrow, but I don't have to be there until 07:00--what doesn't work so well is that it was the front tire that went flat and she's riding a Hexhead GS with a 19" rim on the front--no joy at Casa Edmonds for anything that will fit. She doesn't seem to be worried about the plug holding, which is good, because by the time I heard which tire was involved (and which bike--thanks for the pics, Whip! ) all the non-BMW shops were also closed and as noted earlier, she'll need to be back on the road long before SD BMW (less than two miles from our house, BTW! ) will open up. Fortunately, the plug is holding and there are precious few "twisties" between here and JAX! Leslie whipped up some fresh home-made pesto tonight (with sauteéd veggies, chicken sausage and pasta) and we'll warm some of that up for her on her arrival. She mentioned that her "electrics" are not working so we'll see if we can trouble shoot that while she gets some much needed sleep and see if we can get her comfy for the return leg. Fortunately the Santa Ana wind condition died down here tonight, but it still could be windy going up Mountain Springs Grade and will likely still be a bit cold going over the Tecate Divide (4140 feet) and Crestwood Summit (4181 feet) before dropping down into the coastal plain. At least the Santa Ana wind would have been at her back on the way in! It's still a balmy 58* F at Casa Edmonds at 21:40 hours PST, and I just cranked up the water heater a bit more if she wants to take a nice deep soaking bath on arrival. I've heard that the bed in the guest room is one of the most comfortable ever (it's fairly new, from Ikea and doesn't get near enough use . . . hint, hint! ), but those are usually from Iron Butt riders who are so dead tired by the time they reach here that their opinions can hardly be trusted at that point! Here's a neat site with pics of the route in so she can see what she's missing in the dark! (linky) . . . leavin' the light on! Link to comment
Firefight911
Thanks for the updates Jamie!! Go Nancy go!!! Darn it. I have a perfectly good tire sitting in the garage! Link to comment
Les is more
Nancy just pulled in and is headed for a warm shower. Jamie is out in the garage seeing if he can find/fix the electrical problem. I'm heating up the pasta. Maggie has done all the requisite sniffing so, Nancy is now an official member of the family. Link to comment
Les is more
I've let her know about your offer, Whip. She's pretty confident in the tire for now. I'm sure she'll call if she feels differently about when she's back your way. Link to comment
KMG_365
Doing a quick inspection, I found a wire in the Centech heading to a relay that fell out when I looked at it sideways. Thinking this was the obvious issue, I re-installed it and tightened up all the rest of the screws in the bus bars some of which were also very loose and got power to the end of the power cord. Unfortunately the jacket still would not heat up. A little more examining turned up two broken wires, one of which was just poking through the insulation right next to the molded stress relief of the male plug. Fortunately, the stress relief is not "welded" to the wire insulation so I was able to cut enough back to get to the wire and solder/splice the plug back on. Not enough room for a proper "western union" splice, and it's ugly as hell, but the jacket gets nice and toasty now! The tire looks fine, so we're headed to bed and up in another four hours to escort her down to the beach. I'm working a partial shift tomorrow, but I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow night if I get a chance. Wonderful visit, wonderful lady and as always--we're glad to be of service to our moto-family. Gee, from all the posts out there it seemed like they were open 24/7 and would mount and balance your tires for $10. Guess I was thinking more mom & pop like our local and that I could've gottten her a tire. Anyways, good news on the NerdyJamie repair . Let's hope the weather and tire co-operate. Go Miss Kitty. roadscholar
Not that it will do any good for the time being, but if the tire makes it back here I've got a Tourance or a 607 to get her home on. Link to comment

KMG_365
I left Nancy this morning at Johnny's Shell station in Ocean Beach just before 06:30 PST and headed in to work. I got some great pics, but I won't be able to post them until later. The plugged tire is holding well and I think the jacket will come in handy this morning going back over the mountain passes to the east. She's thinking of stopping in Ft. Stockton, TX tonight (short of Whip's place in San Antonio) and then making it to Tallahassee by the next night before finishing up the next morning. If any of the Tallahassee Crew want to step up to help out PM me for her cell number. I believe my time stamp for the start of the return leg was 06:25 PST. Link to comment
JerryMather
Where were you??!! I was at their hotel at 4AM and escorted both of them to the beach to pick up some sand and water. Afterwards we rode out of town together, leaving them just past Alpine and we didn't see you there. Although I saw alot of sleepy knuckleheads with extra gas tanks on their bikes. You'd you pay for that photo of them? Link to comment
