randy Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I am looking at some upgraded boots, ones to ride everyday on my commute, and that will provide a little better protection for my weekend mountain riding. I do not need these for track days. waterproof is mandatory The second need is I like a "fuller" square toe design I tried on some AlpineStar Eff Gortex, and I liked the toe area because it was more square in desing (i.e. versus the more round toe design) I have a very narrow foot, and Sidi's tend to be more narrow than Alpinestars (according to new enough) so my question is, for the Sidi owners, is there a good waterproof street boot, with some minor ankle protection that has the larger square toe design?
bmwson Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I have the Sidi Way Te-Por boots. I use the Mega model since I have wide feet. They are totally waterproof, comfortable, and I highly recommend them. Try this site. http://www.motonation.com/
daveinatlanta Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Randy - I JUST (yesterday) got some Oxtar Matrix II from Bob's ( http://store.bobscycle.com) in size 43 which is about a 9/12 to 10. They're gore tex and supposedly waterproof. Cost was $180 shipped. They're the first to fit me correctly - including BMW's line - but I have an average foot in terms of width. I actually got the Oxtar recommendation here and had to look *long and hard* to find them since they're no longer imported unless you want to pay a little extra for the replacement which is TSC as I recall. Same boot, different name and higher price. I went to BMW Atlanta first because they still had some Oxtars - just not in my size. They didn't have the TSCs either - otherwise I'd have bought them on the spot. I just wore them riding for the first time and it will take some getting used to and I may need to adjust my shift lever to allow a little more room. I noticed that my shifts are not as smooth (were they ever??) because I can't feel the shift lever. Yet. Hopefully it is something that will improve over time. These are the first real Motorcycle Boots I've owned. I've been riding with Timberlands and Merril Hiking boots. Ruined two pair of them --! Changing subjects my tires are getting worn so I'll be in touch with you soon
brianbmw Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 for the oxtar boots check newenough.com. They have them on clearance really cheap. I think maybe $109, whatever it is i know it was a great deal.
Linz Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Read every report that you can find on the Sidi On Road Goretex boots before you part with your money. You can buy cheap or you can buy the best. Not all waterproof boots are made equal. Sidi-On Road. Gloves for your feet. Completely waterproof and comfortable. Linz
Paul Mihalka Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 My favorites are http://www.cruiserworks.com/ . Very well made, really waterproof, don't look like Ricky Racer boots. Only down-side for some, no armor.

Bheckel169 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 +1 on the Cruiserworks boot. I also like them because you can get off the bike and go anywhere without looking like you came off a spaceship. Bruce

randy Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 sorry I guess I should have noted, I aleady have a pair of Cruiser works boots. Very nice and yes waterproof. these boots are 5 years old, with around 75,000 miles on them. I know all about cruiser works boots. My question/need is a similar quality boot, but with a little more protection. I have already looked at the sidi Road and it is a great boot, and price is not a problem. I may end up with those boots, but I do not like the look. I was hoping for a better look, with similar waterproof and the bigger toe box area.
Kinsley Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Randy, I have an older version of the Thunder boot which has the same waterproofness, but looks more refined.
randy Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 ken, that looks nice. Does anyone know if a local Atlanta shop stocks any SIDI's boots. I would love to go look at an actual boot. As of right now, using the internet to view the boots, it looks like all the SIDI have a rounded toe area. The Alpinestars seem to have a bigger toe box area. I really like the strada Evo Rain boots. So far these boots have the look, waterproof, and protection I was looking for. Once again if anyone knows of Atlanta area (say up to 60 miles of Atlanta) stores that sell Sidi boots let me know.
Kinsley Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 They are very nice and if they fit you'll never want another brand. I tried a pair of Alpinestars, but once I tried them on I knew they were going back, so I've stuck with Sidi. I have the previous generation (same look), but I'll probably get the Thunder if my current ones ever break down, but they've been going strong for over 60K miles, so who knows when.... Blue Moon carried Sidi at one time, but they may not now. Ken
randy Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Ken thanks, I really do not enjoy going to blue moon, but if they carry sidi, maybe for this one item I will swing by there. I wish cycle gear carried sidi, they only carry alpinestar. Just as an FYI, what was the issue with the alpinestar's? They only had one style in my size (a 47) but it fit great looked nice and had a very nice toe box area. It was just to similar to my current cruiserworks boot so not really a good partner to my current boot.
Kinsley Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Hi Randy, The Sidi's are much higher quality. When I put the Alpinestar boots on, I could feel the zipper on top of my foot and I knew they would be terrible to walk in. I can walk and ride for days in the Sidi boots and never think about my feet.
