KingBiscuit Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Last summer I bought a used 04 R1150RT. After the purchase, I realized that the tool kit was not on the bike. I called the seller and asked if he had the kit, he did not. All that being said, can anyone recommend a set of tools that I can put together to carry on the bike.(specific wrench sizes, etc)..or should I just bite the bullet and by an OEM kit at my local dealer? Thanks, Dan
awagnon Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 The OEM kit is pretty good compared to other brands, but I'd just go to Sears and buy the individual tools. The only thing you won't find is the spark plug wire puller and a long thin spark plug wrench, but I've seen after market pullers in magazines and Harbor Freight sells a spark plug socket that works well if you have a 3/8 inch ratchet. You might try Beemer Boneyard or other BMW salvage places to see if they have used tool kits.
ShovelStrokeEd Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Tools you need vs nice to have. Depends on how much of your own maintenance you want to do and where. I carry a small selection of tools keyed to the maintenance I do while on the road. It all fits into a little tote bag and takes up about 1/8 of my Givi 460 top box. Tire plug kit, Slime compressor, tools for adjusting my chain (Honda Blackbird), a can of chain lube, a 4 in 1 screwdriver, set of metric hex wrenches and a couple of small combination wrenches. Most important tool? A credit card with a 5K line on it and my AAA RV+ card. I have a 1500 lb box full of tools at home to take care of routine maintenance and major work. On the road, I just run it into a dealer for things like chains and tires. Expensive? Yeah, but my time on the road I'd rather spend on the road the wrenching beside it. I don't count the 10 minute chain lube/adjust at the end of the day, I just do it right after I get the bags off the bike.

bojohnson Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Can anyone post a list for the R1200RT similar to the one posted above by effexer1?
KingBiscuit Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 Thanks for all the responses. I'll try to get one off e-bay, if that doesn't work, I'll just put one together from the list that was posted. Thanks again, Dan

Thanks again, Dan Dan, now that you have the tool list you might E-Mall that info to your E-Bay seller & have them verify that all on the list is in the kit they are selling.. I have a feeling that some of those E-Bay kits might be short a tool or two.. Twisty
2wheeler Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I've got one I'll sell you cheap. PM me if you are interested.
