keithb
You can buy the oil filter wrench for $20 from Bob's BMW. You need a thin walled socket for the spark plug. Buy one and have a machine shop turn it down for you. I think BMW sells one for about $75. It is the socket and extension cast as one piece. A lot of money for a money IHMO. If you need the tool to remove the long tube that fits on the plug you can get that from www.marcparnes.com. I think it is about $25. Link to comment

keithb
This link you listed pulls the long tube off the spark plug. I cannot remember what you call the darn thing. I have one and it works very well. There is another option. Get a pair of long needle nosed pliers. Wrap the tips with a shop rag. Then grab the black portion at the top of the long tube and gently use the valve cover to pry the long tube out. It is pretty easy. I used the plier method many times before I got the tool from Marc. There is a rubber ring that holds the long tube in place. Link to comment
Albert
Just a quick note on the spark plug socket. I wouldn't rush out and pay to have a socket machined either. It just so happened one of the sockets in my tool box fit with no modification. I can't recall now if I use a true spark plug socket or just a deep socket of the appropriate size. Point is, if you look around you should be able to buy one off the shelf in a parts store. Link to comment
brianbmw
I'm not worried about the socket, i can machine that down myself. I was wondering about the wire puller offer thing. Link to comment

GoGo Gadget
I use a strap style oil filter wrench and a flat head screwdriver wrapped in a shop rag to pull the plug wire off. Link to comment
bakerzdosen
Marc Parnes plug puller. Crescent brand socket wrench tool for spark plugs (came in my set from Costco) just worked out of the box with the plugs. I bought a rather inexpensive oil filter tool from my local BMW mechanic. (roughly $20) I'll still continue to use K&N oil filters though when they're more convenient than a BMW filter to acquire. You just need a wrench for those as they have a nut on top. Link to comment
steveknapp
I use a strap style oil filter wrench and a flat head screwdriver wrapped in a shop rag to pull the plug wire off. I've known a couple people who did the same and later had issues with cracks in the boot or wire that caused ride-ability issues in the rain. YMMV. The 1100 and 1150 single spark tools are very different from the coil on plug style that the dual-spark 1150's and 1200s use. Also, regardless of the socket you use, a locking extension guarantees you won't loose the socket in there. Plus it's useful for other jobs as well. Link to comment
Kitsap
Snap-On tools has a thin wall socket for removing plugs. Another board member posted this info last year, I wish I could remember who so I could say thanks Link to comment
hopz
Harbor Freight has a thin walled deep socket for the plugs... For the Filter, I use the expanding/contracting, ratchet sort of wrench from my Harley days...or the strap wrench that fit old BMW 2002's (cars)... Link to comment
