EffBee
Discontinued by Michelin. Of course, there are plenty of the Pilot Road2 tires in that size. But if you've got an 1100RT, and you love your standard Pilot Road tires, and your dealer has any of the 18-inchers in stock, buy them now or be prepared to switch. Danged shame. No other changes to the Michelin Pilot Road line-up. A possible replacement would be the new Dunlop RoadSmart Sport Touring tires. Less expensive. And the reports we've gotten back from the first sets we've installed indicated excellent grip and smart turn-in. As for mileage, that's a test in progress. Link to comment
smiller
Are the Pilot Road2 in 160/60x18 still in normal production, or are those being discontinued as well? Link to comment
Tony_K
Only the standard PR. PR2 is the replacement in our 18" size. Link to comment
EffBee
Only the standard PR. PR2 is the replacement in our 18" size. Exactly. The PR2 is now THE Pilot Road for those with 18" rear wheels. I've got a call in to Michelin to find out if the 18" tire was discontinued simply because of dwindling volume, or if this portends the eventual end of the regular PR's, leaving only the PR2's as the available Pilot Road tire. When I have a response, I'll pass it on. Link to comment
smiller
OK, thanks. I had always assumed that the PR2 was intended to replace the PR series from the outset, didn't realize that there was a question about that. Link to comment
EffBee
OK, thanks. I had always assumed that the PR2 was intended to replace the PR series from the outset, didn't realize that there was a question about that. There has been some uncertainty. At the time that the PR2's were released, there was a national shortage of regular PR's. This, we thought, meant that the regular PR's were in the process of being discontinued. But that was not the case. Michelin made and shipped boatloads of regular PR's to distributors all over the world, AFTER they released the PR2's. OK, we thought. That means they are planning on maintaining both lines, PR and PR2. That's why the basis for the end of the 18" PR rear is unclear. Was it a decision based on falling sales of that size? Or is it the first step in the cessation of the regular PR line? When I have some more info, I'll post it. Link to comment
EffBee
LATEST UPDATE Here's the latest direct from Michelin. They have discontinued three sizes of the original Pilot Road tires. 120/60x17 110/70x17 160/60x18 All other sizes are still in production and no change is expected for at least this year, and perhaps longer, depending on sales volume. Beemr69
So it appears Michelin doesnt want the business from the 1100's , ah doesn't matter I didnt prefer them anyway .... RT Link to comment
smiller
So it appears Michelin doesnt want the business from the 1100's I'm still not getting something... since the 160/60x18 size contines to be available in the PR2 line what is the issue with just going to a PR2? Is the original PR superior in some way? Link to comment

smiller
Ah, OK. But the way tire prices have been going up that advantage will probably disappear sooner or later anyway. Link to comment
