ItsABeemur
I bought a used set of Corbin seats off ebay from someone who told me they came off a 2003 RT. They should fit my 04 RT just fine. I cannot seem to get it locked in though. Does anyone know if there is any special "trick" or additional mounting hardware or removal of any hardware in order to get these to mount. I have emailed Corbin, but am yet to receive a response. Any help would be great! Link to comment
BeamieToo
I would do the obvious and compare the underside of your new Corbin to that of another stock saddle to see if there is anything different. Perhaps there is a line drawing or a fiche available without having to make a physical look-see. Link to comment
johnlt
Some of the older Corbin seat pans have a history of poor fit. You may have to "work with it" a little to get it to work. Hopefully a Corbin owner will jump in here. Link to comment
Uncle Beemer
I have a Corbin seat on my '04 RT, let's just say that the fit is really, really tight. It probably takes about 5 minutes to get the seat on. Link to comment
swilson
Yeah, thats my only complaint. Getting them on isn't usually easy. Notice how the rear corbin seat has two protruding metal pieces at the front of it that locks into rear of the front seat? The height you set your front seat at will determine which protruding metal piece you are going to line up with the front seat. Thats all the advice I have though... beyond that you're just gonna have to massage things (bend those metal pieces maybe?) to make it all fit well. Link to comment
Heck
I don't know about the 04 RT, but on my 05 and Tiger, I had to shim the catch on the latch. Two or three washers should do it. Also, a little lube on the rubber feet help. Shimming the catch on the back latch usually will fix the problem. It's never gonna come on and off as well as the stock pans though.... You might want to lengthen the hex cap screw a little and use a locking nut where it mounts into the seat itself... Good Luck Link to comment
ItsABeemur
Alright...I shimmed the latch with two washers and 1 rubber washer...just to give it that nice tight smooth feel. I got the seat on fine in the middle position. I wish I could get it on the higher mount though....it will not mount on the highest setting. I like the seat...although very much lower and feeling more "in" the bike than on it. Seems to make cornering less of a task and a bit more enjoyable. Once again it has been a week and a half and no help from Corbin. Thanks for the suggestions! Link to comment
realshelby
The secret is in shimming the steel plate that is attached to the rear of the front saddle. Depending on which setting you ride in will determine the amount of washers you need to put between the seat and the steel plate. You may have to put longer bolts in place of the originals to get enough shims/washers in place. The bolts are SAE by the way, not metric. I recall using about 3 fairly thick washers under each side on my Corbin. Link to comment
Jerry Johnston
Be careful using washers under the latch - I ended up breaking an ear (mt) off the latch doing that (as was suggested by Corbin)and had to repair it. I ended up making a wood shim that went all the way across the latch and a metal piece across the top to repair the broken piece. I also ended up putting a couple of rubber pieces on the two bars that the passenger seat rest against to make the seat stable and not rock from side to side. I also had to cut one of the metal tongues a little shorter before the seat would move far enough forward to latch. Now the seat fits fine, has a 1/8" gap around the passenger seat and unlocks without feeling like the key is going to break while unlocking the seat. I've taken pictures of most of the mods and can email them to you if interested. I went for 8 years on my 1st set of Corbin seats by Banging hard on the rear of the back seat in order to get it to latch but have that problem solved. I always have the seat in the highest position.
